Think about it, though. Smoking was pushed as cool in the 50s. So was Elvis. How many people think Elvis is still cool? How many people think other stuff from the 50s is still cool? It just goes against the definition of cool, it needs a sense of novelty to be cool, that's what cool is all about. It's about redefining culture by the new generation. Smoking isn't novel at all, it's what our grandparents did. So how can it be cool? Only if your sources of information are seriously behind the times.
Of course, I'd rather not be making this case to you of all people, who loves 50s movies and the smoking they advertise. But for someone less nostalgic, for someone living more in the present, it holds up trust me.
