So i'm in a bit of a dilemma here. Today was my second day at my new job, i work as a risk analyst in one of the biggest financial institutions in the UAE and the middle east. The prospects of future employment are big, and the salary if i do get employed permanently in the future is quite good too. There are two problems though, the work is not in my domain which is HR(I'm doing my masters in HR), the pay right now is worse than my current job, the hours are more, and i spend more than two hours in the traffic to get to my job everyday, which means i don't have much time left for my studies.

In my other job at my university, its a 5 minute walk away from home, i work until 2 only, the pay is better, i literally have no cost as i don't drive to work and i don't need to have lunch outside home. But the chance for permanent employment is almost non existent, and the work i do in my current job is quite boring and too simple.

What do you guys think?

It was quite long, but I made it to the end.

and?

If you wanna get more dough later go for the other job and work for it... If not, hello University.
If the new position offers more rewards, go for it. Think of the commute, lower salary and harder work as an investment for the future.

Thanks guys. Andy, you make a good point, but risk management isn't really my domain, i never studied finance and i'm already doing a masters degree in HR, so even if i do get the permanent job after 5 months, how much can i develop in a field that i am not specialized in?

Well, you asked what I was thinking, and it was that. I don't have any career advice to give, I don't know anything about it.

What do they teach you in a HR master?

Whats in Oman though? Unless you're going to Salala

Ya the job is in Deira. I have to make the decision today :frown:
The hotel I am at is located at a very nice place. High rock right by the ocean. Plus they have 1 week for fire works championship. Salalah blooms in summer time only.

as for the job, you can try it 5 months, but then what! Back to Uni if it doesnt work?
The job sounds more tempting and has better future than the Uni one. ANd as for not working in your domian, well who does anyway!
