100k for a wedding? Completely ridiculous. Imagine what you could do with all those suitcases stuffed with cash after the wedding, why spend it all on one day?
To show off, to prove status?

Most brides won't accept anything less here. People say that women don't have rights in the middle east, well here they fuckin dry you clean, and live like queens :D

So thats what you're spending on your bride I guess?
I'm not Emirati, i just live here.

Nah, he's going on the cheap. Libyan. Or does that make it even more expensive?

I'm pretty sure you can get much cheaper brides on the internet.
No, Libyan weddings are a whole lot cheaper :D

It would probably cost me at the very most 20,000 $ to get married in Libya. That is at the very most, in most cases it would probably cost around 12,000 to 15,000$

No I did but that still seems a staggering amount for the middle class to spend on one day.

You should get into the wedding planning/catering business.
Theres a lot of money in that here :agree:

Most of the time the couple end up starting their life in debt, in some cases the girl actually asks for a divorce because the man isn't able to maintain the posh life style she was used to when living with her parents.

Its vicious out here.

Btw, the state has a marriage fund that gives Emirati's whose monthly salaries are less than 15,00DHS (around 5,000$) 70,000DHS(around 20,000$), no strings attached, if they were to marry an Emirati girl.

I didn't even mention the car she expects you to buy her, and the mansion she expects to live in :D
I used to know a guy from UAE. His life was like that. "Oh a birthday, parents bought me a car" etc :D I kinda wanted to ask "so are you like a prince or..". Never did though.

Get me a job there. I'll wear a towel and do whatever they want as long as they pay.
I told you before, being American is enough here mate. :D

I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a job in Dubai or Abu Dhabi that pays really good.

Jeez, for that money. Is there a return policy?
Come on, how much do you expect a wedding to cost then??!

Sum you pay to the bride, bride's dress, bride's wardrobe, the posh wedding party. Its almost a culture for Emirati's to overspend and show off their money, most brides would not accept that their friends got a more expensive wedding than they did. You're average middle class wedding could cost around 100,000$, at the very least.
Does the man have to pay dowry? I know in some culture it's the reverse...that's why I ask.

Of course, thats one of the most expensive things in marriage here :D

One of my friends who wanted to get married a few years back, proposed and was asked to pay 350,000 DHS as a dowry. Thats almost 100,000$

How far would you be going?

Their money comes from the government? Is it oil money being redistributed?

Not necessarily, but the government makes it very easy for UAE nationals to be employed. They also impose a certain quota on firms operating within the UAE to employ a certain percentage of UAE nationals.

It is almost impossible to find an Emirati with a college degree that is jobless(unless he doesn't want to work). Most of my Emirati friends started out with a job that pays 15,000DHS minimum. Which is roughly 4,000$ monthly.

But their families usually own the companies they work for, eh? They come and go as they please. They walk the malls during the day in their long white spotless garbs while their slav...I mean servants walk behind them. They live in big embassy size homes which were given to them at their 18th birthday by the government. I go on :D
