I had been applying for a legal traineeship, but there are very few of them around at the moment.

I'll end up putting in a year doing any old job and applying for traineeships again in a years time.
That sucks.

Yeah your best bet is to start another job while you keep looking for the one you want. I think I'm gonna do that

How do I follow up? I send them an email, they don't answer, should I then send them another email??
Phone call. Tell them you appreciate the time they've given you and you look forward to working with them. Keep it brief.

Never follow up with an email. Either send a letter or phone in, if not both.

Yeah. Or call and ask them if they got it. You might not want to seem like a pest or you might want the job.
Will try that.

Typical.

I would love to work in HR so I can figure out why it is they don't call people back.
I'm planning on working in HR eventually, when i do that, i'll let you know why it is, that "we" don't call people back :D

Since may I have applied and applied, the situation here is so bad, entry level positions with the lowest possible legal wage want 5 years experience

Similar kind of problem here, most jobs require 3-5 years of experience as a minimum. As soon as they see that you're a fresh graduate, they throw your CV in the dustbin.
