Sometimes I think that we're in a revolution without people realising it. Quantum computers, AI and possibly UAP disclosure and human travel to Mars within 10 years.

You can take the UAP thing with a pinch of salt if you dont like that rabbit hole, either way the implications of all the other things are huge.

He says it as a size comparison.

Homo Deus of Yuval Noah Harrari is a nice book of technological innovations that will enhance human life in the future, I almost finished his audiobook. Some things aren’t that bad, think about those little devices that people with diabetes nowadays have in their arms.

Man God... yeah I read it, interesting book in a dystopian way. Sure helping people with diabetes, or paralyzed people with neuralink is good, but it won't end there. I can see it becoming a necessary thing to access payments and be part of the economy etc., as well as "upgrades" to humans - eyesight, IQ, etc that will be accessible to the wealthy, creating new divisions of humans. Not to mention being at the mercy of corporations with this stuff.

Just writing ad lib here but yeah, one of those things where just because we can doesn't we should

This Microsoft announcement is pure marketing hype. And no, we’re not getting to Mars before 2050.

Yeah the book goes into modifying the human genome, removing bad traits or improving good ones, plus all the ethical questions surrounding it. Also quite nicely describes how we’re biological algorithms. Fun book in general although I think that Sapiens is better, will try to read Nexus of him aswel in the future.

Well we certainly act like it, as our experiences form us, but his explanation leaves little place for a soul as he admits. Personally I’d like to think that we have a soul, it would be nice if our existence means a bit more than just the experience we have with our biological body, but there’s no way to prove that. Strong philosophical question btw, you’ll get into empiricism vs a bunch of different philosophers now. What do you think?

I agree, I'd like to hope we're more than masses of matter acting upon chemical reactions in our brains. You can't really know, but I choose to live like it.

I don't trust this Yuval guy and those of his ilk who want to play God with humanity.

On the topic of jobs and careers. Any other engineers in the built environment here? I’m really frustrated with how this industry operates - so much of it feels like just copying past work with minimal real engineering, all while working on insanely low budgets. There is a heavy push for energy efficiency, decarbonization, and innovation which are great in theory, but in practice, there’s barely any time to implement any of this shit properly. It’s exhausting, and I’m seriously questioning if I want to do this for another ten years. Has anyone else felt this way? Have you found better avenues within or outside the industry?

Last night I dreamed I was having sex with my colleague. I woke up in the morning while still my dick was erecting. It's a fucking suffer.
