Anyone have to regularly give presentations as part of their job? How do you feel about them? Is it something that became easier to do the more you did it?
Looking into data science and it seems like a large portion of it is giving presentations, something I've never particularly excelled at.
I do. In part, you have to like it a little... or grow to like it. But if you're an introvert, don't worry. You'd be surprised how many great speakers there are who are introverts. (They tend to plan and prep the hell out of it, which is always a good thing.)
It does become easier the more you do it and the more experience you get. I kind of encourage it now.
It also helps to get a coach if you can (i.e., especially if an employer can help pay for it!). My wife is excellent at that. She learns their presentation material so that it's relevant and engaging to the designed audience, helps them focus on what to say, helps them work on all the body gestures and habits to help open people up, and she also video records them so that you can witness with the coach where you need work to improve. Things like "ums" and "uhs" or not pausing or talking too fast or looking too stiff and not moving or not modulating your voice any are common issues.
