I mean they’re getting older, more health problems, realizing their prime has passed and every next day will be worse than the previous. I can see it if they’re sort of selfish. Hunter S Thompson was a pretty good example.
That's rarely the reason for suicide. It's far deeper and more clinical. In general people get happier with age. And please do not make a connection between being selfish and suicide.
My post was rather a thought, that I'd liek to believe that at a certain age and maturity inner demons settle down and you get to accept them and yourself. Sadly, that isn't the case. Depression - liek proper depression - can arrive at any point in lief. But the idea that many people live an entire lief in the internal prison that is a malfunctioning minds just saddens me a bit.

A case like Bourdain, though... you have to imagine this has been a struggle for some time. And unless he had some undiagnosed illness or his health took some major turn for the worse, he may have been coping with it for a while.
