That's rarely the reason for suicide. It's far deeper and more clinical. In general people get happier with age. And please do not make a connection between being selfish and suicide.

My post was rather a thought, that I'd liek to believe that at a certain age and maturity inner demons settle down and you get to accept them and yourself. Sadly, that isn't the case. Depression - liek proper depression - can arrive at any point in lief. But the idea that many people live an entire lief in the internal prison that is a malfunctioning minds just saddens me a bit.

There's more truth here. Despite the news of the likes of Robin Williams, etc., suicide is definitely more of a young person's problem. When you're younger, your identity is usually much less certain. You're also more likely a drama queen: every feeling, every relationship, etc., is the most fucking ridiculously dramatic thing in your life. No wonder Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet without them being in a retirement home.

A case like Bourdain, though... you have to imagine this has been a struggle for some time. And unless he had some undiagnosed illness or his health took some major turn for the worse, he may have been coping with it for a while.

He most liekly have had demons to fight a large part of his lief, but the "sudden depression" is a thing that many don't expect/believe can happen. A recent trauma can trigger a clinical depression in otherwise healthy people, which is why it coems as a shock.

Depression prays on everyone, altho soem are more prone than others.

So I've been having an issue were I feel like my vision has been getting worse, particularly my depth perception and its had me more cautious when driving. I figured my vision is declining from the fact that I now spend 8 hours a day staring at a computer screen but I went to the optometrist, got tested and according to them my vision is fine.

Yes. And there are exercises for this too. You focus on an object nearby for 10 seconds, then you focus on something far away for 10 seconds. You switch two or three times. I do this whenever I feel my vision gets 'stuck' and I find it really helps.

I sit on photoshop for hours, and if i shut down the PC and stop working, i'm usually a little dizzy for half an hour or so. Problems with depth perception come with it, hell, i once poured Coke right next to the glass, straight on the table.

It goes away rather quick though. You having that problem 24/7?

Just to clarify, this is the arm you hold yourself up against the wall with.

Probably a lot of eye strain. Might want to look into some blue light filtering glasses.

Hmmm. Turns out that my assumptions about suicide and age were off - at least in the US. The group most likely are white men in their 50s and 60s, which fits Bourdain. They say that’s more the demographic of unemployed, divorced, family-isolated men addicted to pain killers, however.

That said, the stats for suicides among just about all age groups are up.

There are major strikes against Bourdain that I don’t people see. Being a chef is not a glamorous thing. It was for him after he left the profession. In it, the hours suck, the food you eat is shit, and you’re stressed out of your mind. The only way to cope for some - as he did - was to drink a lot of alcohol and get addicted to heroin. That is not the foundation for a resilient life.

I’ve worked with computers full time for decades now. I haven’t had vision problems fortunately. But that’s partly because I have the attention span of a gnat and thus don’t have long periods of intense focus.
