It’s really easy work and they overpay out the ass. Someone’s gonna do it anyways.

I mean they do make drugs, it’s the combo between Pharma companies, corrupt doctors, and insurance companies that ruins everything.

Like Maddy said, they come up with some pretty impressive shit, the epi pen being up theee.
sure they're not the only factor and probably not all of them are rotten at the core, but I'd rather not work for a big pharma company, just like I wouldn't like to work for a gambling company or short term loaner with an aggressive marketing campaign.

it's really hard to be the change you want to see in world, but it's not that hard to not take part in the dark side

I can highly recommend working for Novo Nordisk; they got a factory in Raleigh, NC (I think) Edit: Clayton, NC.

A few family members have worked there and they are a top company in terms of working hours, family, pay, benefits. I even believe the US part of the company is top notch in this regard.

My girlfriend works for Johnson and Johnson. She mostly runs experiments with new drugs, some of it animal testing. Mostly she's in the lab though. The pay and benefits she gets are crazy. I'd really recommend working in big pharma.

And sure, pharmaceutical companies can be a bit thuggish at times. In the end however they still develop life saving drugs and they aim at getting them on the market at an affordable price (otherwise their business model just wouldn't work).

Dude, what? The sheer number of lives saved by big pharma indicate that at the very least they are more a force of good than evil in the world.

saving lives and improving health condition is part of their job description though, would be very sad if all the billions spent in developing drugs had no end product :D

take a look at Johnson and Johnson, their employees and shareholders are very well off, their profit in 2017 was 16.3 billion dollars (around 1/4 of their revenue) and I'm sure you have your own objections towards their business model when you say they're in part a force of evil. it's not illegal, but there are big moral dilemmas here, I find it very sad that a drug selling company is among the most profitable in the world.

You find it sad that saving lives is one of the most profitable things you can do in this world? Personally I find it sad that selling worthless mortgages makes people billions.

Sure, Johnson and Johnson could afford to make less money. But there are companies out there that are a whole lot worse.

you sound a bit too personally invested when you describe their business model as "saving lives" :D

No, I'm not. Their drugs do save lives. That's just a fact. When people work on drugs for Dengue, the effect will be saving lives. It is what it is. It's easy to hate big pharma, because they make a lot of money, but it makes little sense. At the very least they provide a worthwile service. Something that cannot be said for some other companies.

yeah, some of them are crucial and life saving. are all of the 70+ billion revenue, 16 billion profit products crucial and life saving? not even close, that's why I found it funny :D

I don't like them because they make big bucks profiting from the sick, it's just wrong in my opinion, the costs of healthcare are crazy because of mega companies like these and their huge lobby power makes it impossible for someone new to come in and challenge them

There are parts of the US with a climate so bad, you couldn't pay me to live there. But yeah, i'll give you that. There are some really nice spots. The german language isn't shitty, it's just more complex and harder to learn.
German is nice, and easy as hell (for a dane). If you are fluent in any of the germanic languages learning german shouldn't be a problem (pronunciation aside).

That's not entirely true. For Dutch speaking people it's easy to understand German and speak something that resembles German. Grammatically the two languages are very far apart though and I would not consider it easy to speak German well. The accent would be easier than Italian or French though.

I have to side with Seven on this one. In fact for me, I think its a good thing that big pharma makes a lot of money and subsequently can pay good money to attract talented people to work for them. Otherwise there wouldn't be much incentive for competent people to want to work there, a consequence for that could be that big pharma companies wouldn't be as effective at developing drugs and medicine that society needs. Do big pharma companies engage in questionable and sometimes immoral behavior, yes unfortunately they do. But I would also say they do more good than bad, and we shouldn't begrudge them making money and profit for their shareholders.

I agree completely.

Just so we're clear though, I do think we should hold these companies accountable for their behaviour. Johnson and Johnson for example often strong-arm Belgium in getting tax benefits because they know they are an important employer here. It's understandable behaviour, but it isn't right.

I can also feel at home with my Mexi brothers in the US.

I must admit that German isn't shitty (I quite like it tbh) but fuck their long words :p

I would have loved some drugs when I had dengue.
