"Great if true" :howler:

Please you are so petty you would rather i didnt have health insurance if it were enough to prove you right.
Insurance companies have all sorts of clauses in their contracts to cover as little as possible.

Also, if I had the choice I'd choose for you to have healthcare. Happy?
These euros so clueless
You should live here for a year or five.

I racked up a pretty steep medical bill once in college for a lengthy ER visit and some stitches.

Didnt die of any preventable infections and didnt go into crippling debt either. Paid about 75$ in total.
A 20 something isn't going to get in a lot of trouble. If you are 56 and have lung cancer, you might be less happy with your insurance company.

Actually a lot of insurance is shit. Too expensive or when affordable there are high deductibles limited options, forced to stay within network etc.

The way to get good insurance for a good rate is to buy insurance through your employer
True, I assumed we were talking about employer issued insurance. It's a ripoff otherwise.

How bad are we talking? I was under the impression standard insurance covers whatever you may need besides experimental procedures.
That's not the case. Usually it covers doctor visits, cheap stuff, but can get picky when healthcare becomes more costly. It's best to read through your plan.

Yea certain parts of our healthcare are definitely subpar, not sure they could help you

:baus:

I'd get help 100% if i had a mental disease, no one would send me back home undiagnosed, where i eventually could grab a assault-rifle at the local super market and run riot with it.

How many of those incidents could have been prevented with a proper healthcare system (FOR ALL) in place?

I bet 80% of the persons in this thread praising state provided medical health care in Europe have a nice health insurance package themselves and never need the state provided health care anyways :D

I think cheap and pretty places like Thailand or Indonesia trump Europe and USA for quality of life if you are able to work from home and get paid like you were living in a 1st world country. you can lead an absolutely carefree life with your family with a 1500 eur salary, if you don't want to live like a king, 1000 is ok too

No. I do have additional health insurance, but by far the biggest part is paid by the state. If I get a surgery that costs 4000, 3800 would be paid by the state. My insurance covers the additional 200. Usually you don't pay anything here.

ok, you technically use the state provided healthcare, but it's not like people with good health insurance really need it.

my insurance is included in the company benefit package (just like for most people working for larger companies) and I choose to go to private healthcare centers because the service is so much better there.

sure it's a big question mark what would happen if I ended up having a larger problem that goes beyond the insurance, but even in those cases state doesn't cover everything. so me personally I don't really feel like I've won the lottery having a state provided healthcare, but of course at the same time I know that it's important for many people in worse situations than mine and I'm glad they're taken care of

No. The state always covers the biggest part in Belgium. You can only get insurance for the additional costs. Like I said, for a surgery of 4000, the state pays 3800, the insurance pays 200. That's not a lottery. That's how it always is. With or without insurance, the state always pays the biggest part here.

So even if you have good healthcare, you still need the state provided healthcare here.

Also, healthcare services in general are among the best in the world in Belgium. We pay a lot of taxes for them, but they are top notch.

private health care centers/hospitals are not allowed in Belgium, only public? seems like a strange country, different definition of gross wages to the row, strange rules on healthcare.. :D
