That's silly, I find saying African American weirder. On general the US seems to be extremely hung up on racial matters more then the rest.
Yeah, at my job one of our salespeople is black, and the amount of people who say stuff like "I don't want to sound racist, but the tall black woman on the sales floor was really helpful and knowledgeable" is more than I would think. It's one thing to want to be politically correct when you're around people you don't know, but I think if you don't know or can't remember someone's name it's fine to use race as a descriptor, especially because just saying "tall woman" is too vague and describing clothing instead requires more thought on the part of both parties.

I care a lot about racial issues, but as long as you're not using race in a derogatory way when describing or talking about someone, I think it should be perfectly fine. But then again I'm white so maybe I have no clue.

One of my coworker's lifelong friends is something of a playboy and a party animal. He lives in the Costa del Concrete now, but they grew up in England together. We went out to some bar once here in California, and someone referenced him being "African American".

He was like, "WTF? I don't even have a green card here."

US has a lot of racial hang-ups for sure. But I think the difference is that our society has a strange belief that you can defeat racism, at least in part, through language.

Nah you are on point Ragazza, wether someone means it well (too PC, too guarded) or negatively, either way making too much of a deal someone's race is unnecessary. To think in lines of what differentiates you and being hung up on it means you will never get passed it.

Yeah I gotten a that impression too, but to talk so much about it just means giving too much importance to it, just self perpuating circus, just better off making less fuss and not need to differentiate between each other so much all the time.

Yea the sad part is no matter how obvious my characterizing of people may be, the dumb always find a way to take it back to race. It really downplays my genius, creativity and ends up wearing on me a great deal at the end of the day, everyday.

The hard part of finding and securing a place has been completed. Now all that remains is moving in.

Then it's time to storm the city with no pants, just as god himself intended.
