Writing a french piece of coursework, Is the French team, French?
sound easy but it gets hard when you have to write 1000+ words on it in french:D

I'm just talking about the Francais de souche and the politician Le Pen, who were against having naturalised french players from abroad.

any points you can help me with?
so far I have done my intro and pgh 1+2
1. The french team represents accurately the french society
2. The people against it, ie Le Pen, Alain Finkelkraut and inccedents like the france vs algeria match

I would say that it's slightly ironic to have that discussion, because what these people really object to in the first place is immigration. But it's too late to prevent that now, France already is multicultural with a big immigrant contingent, not least because of old colonies (ie. kinda like Britain).

So now they say it's wrong that the national team doesn't "look French", but of course it looks just like French society does, because the battle against immigration is long lost by now.

Then there are the hordes (and this may not be relevant to your perspective) of completely uninformed outside observers who claim that the French team isn't French, when in fact they don't have a frickin clue what they're talking about. But then I doubt people in France give a feck about that.

I suppose you could also point out the fact that if you are good enough to play for france and you are elligable then you should.
you only have to look at the stats to see that the naturalised french are the better players:
Captain: Patrick Vieira
Most caps: Lilian Thuram (142)
Top scorer: Thierry Henry (48)

I was sorta going to say something very similar. Le Pen doesn't actually have a leg to stand on vs the national team, because the French team never achieved anything remotely similar to what the beautiful Desailly, Thuram, Lizarazu (comes from Basque territory), Djorkaeff (Armenian roots), Deschamps (Basque), Zidane, Karembeu, Henry did in 98 and then 2000. By contrast, Guivarc'h and Dugarry were utterly useless. :D Out of the "ethnic" Frenchmen who were integral in 98 there was Blanc, Barthez and Petit.
