being a student or having a full time job which is less stressful? well i think it comes down to every ones situation and personality to be honest. there are advantages to both really. for me i'd kill to be out of uni aka my Vietnam and working simply bec i've been enrolled in the worst faculty possible PHARMACY oh yes it might sound appealing to some, some chicks might dig the white coat but trust me there is more BS to it than the bush administration invading iraq for weapons of mass destruction, the levels of stress in it are enormous and pile up with every quiz, lab session, midterm and final not to forget oral exams!! the stress of spending more than u should in it ( aha in my case) are enormous and the fact u have yr best friends graduating, working, making money, and travelling or getting married adds more misery!! so i would say it comes down to personal situations. sure i dont get yelled at by any human being not even my profs unlikemy friends who have to be on there desk on time or else they dont get enough of crap down there throat from there boss, its true i dont have to worry about reaching certain targets or else i dont get commision which would in return result in my final pay check, but when compared to uni i think the only advantage being a student has over being an employee is the freedom of making yr own choice. if u dont want to go to yr lecture u can always have round two of sleep, and still some how manage to pass at the end of the semester sth u cant possible do at work. other than that i'd gladly take earning my money over being a student any day of the week. so being a student is not always the happiest of times, at first hell yes being in uni is superb but if god forbit u are in dentistry, medicine, engineering, or pharmacy u quickly and surely will realize its no fun at all as u hit the books 5 weeks into the semester just so u can make the passing grade and get the courses over and done with.

Its true.

Let me give you an example of how fucked up the system is in india. Back when i was trying to get in govt med school in india we had to give this CET (Common Entrance Test) which was worth 200 points. Seats would be given out on merit basis. I had 181 points and during that year the govt seats closed out at 186. I had a friend who belonged to mistari caste (the one who do the construction work on the lowest level). He scored 61 points and got a free seat on his reservation and the asshole was like "meh, fuck it.Its too much work" and rejected the seat. Imagine the gun powder ready to blow up my ass.

Oh wait m not finished :D

The reservation quota for Govt seats is 38% for "low" cast members and along comes the most ridiculous loopholes ever. If the untouchable decides he wants a seat outside that 38% HE GETS IT. They fucking swallow the open seats just because they can. Only good thing is most of them are rich and into family business,so they dont rele arse themselves to study Engineering or Medicine or anything that is hard on the balls. I see this becoming a big issue in future, actually protests have already started in the past couple of years. That should be good right? People using media and rallies to force the drive against reservations? WRONG! You see whenever there is a rally or demonstration against stuff like this the rural real low cast people in villages see this as an attack on them. Although they would have nothing to take form the massive reservations they have but they jump on the defensive like a paranoid chicken.

Fuck them all and fuck the reservations. Merit basis is the way it should be.

Meritocracy only works if the system is balanced correctly. I had to engage in a points based meritocracy to get to college 6 subjects 1-100 points, perfect score 600. It was a fucking memory test that thought be no practical skills at all, fucking pointless shite. Of course I got 535 :p

Meritocracy works great in theory. The trouble is that nobody starts from a level playing field, and a lot of time and energy is wasted -- and to some degree might need to be -- to correct past wrongs or inequities.

The Roman Empire did this amazingly well: the way to get groups to stop fighting the system was to make them part of the system. Of course, then, look where the Roman Empire is now... :shifty:

I'm planning to spend 9 nights there next year. I have planned to stay at Split for the majority part of the holiday and spend some nights at Hvar too. Will certainly visit Brac and probably Makarska too.

Any tips on this or am I missing something?

Im all for meritocracy because the other alternatives are 40 years old. Rules need to be changed/updated and that is something democracy is not very good at.

Good to have you back Bisco. What held you? Are you cheating on tuz with a girl?
