Songwriting process of Sabbath during Ozzy:

Iommi, Butler & Ward get together and jam out a song. Once they've got the hang of it, Ozzy drops by and they play it again. Ozzy starts howling random words, basically setting the vocal harmonies. Then Ozzy vacates the room and Butler writes the lyrics.

Iommi wouldn't write the same stuff for Dio as he does for Ozzy. many guitarists don't. look at coverdale/page vs zeppelin for example.

While you have a point in what you are saying, the key factor to take into account is that Dio, and Coverdale for that matter, are/were musicians as well as lyricists and singers, therefore things are going to be different.


The first time Dio and Iommi got together to jam, they wrote "Children of the Sea".

that's the difference for me. not just a different singer (i.e. ac/dc scott/johnson) but different music.

I wasn't a fan of their last album, it was kinda like Lupe and Lasers, you expect much more and then they disappoint. But their mixtapes and first album are heavy!
