not that one, alan parsons

metal fan? dislike slayer with a passion?

shame on you.
"Metal Fans" are ridiculous, the amount of diversity within that umbrella of a genre is staggering and there is just no way to like it all. I agree 100% with Sheik when it comes to Slayer. Might be because I've generally cooled off thrash metal since I turned 20.

it's almost as criminal as if you didn't like black sabbath or metallica tbh
Slayer have been much more of a niche thing than Metallica and Black Sabbath, subseqeuntly their influence on later bands has been much smaller than the two you mentioned. Some would say it's because they never (or rarely) broke with their formula others, like me, would simply say it's because they are not as talented.

slayer were a massive influence on extreme metal. most if not all or extreme bands after late 80s would cite slayer as an influence.

no one ever played as heavy and fast as slayer while also having great riffs and songwriting (hannemann :touched: rip)

They are all great metal musicians in their own right, definitely. And far from everyone could do their thing. I just have a general problem with metal bands being fast and heavy for the sake of being it. I imagine Slayer sit down and write songs with that goal in mind "we need the kids to go apeshit over this", often limiting their songwriting, especially Hanneman's talent, for the sake of this. The mid jam of The Four Horsemen is a defining piece of music in Metallica history, it proved that they were different and not afraid to apply their ideas despite everything. I don't see that bravery in Slayer music and I find it boring very quickly. Bloodline is probably the best song they've written, imo.

All that's well n good. But you can't seriously suggest that they're the kind of band that you can listen to with the same level of interest when you're in your mid/late 20's. All the speed n riffs may seem great now, but you'll eventually lose interest in it. And I say that with the utmost confidence.

they are basically the ac/dc of metal... not every band has to have softer songs and be more progressive to 'push boundaries'. slayer did that by going faster and heavier than anyone else.

bloodline is nowhere close to their best song (angel of death easily or maybe seasons in the abyss)

Btw, I'm not arguing that you shouldn't like Slayer. It just doesn't appeal to me in any way.
you can only say that if you have cranked up reign in blood and listened to the whole thing to know you definitely don't like them

Gonna fire up Seasons In The Abyss, just for old times sake.

FFS, you're such a teenager. To me Bloodline is the best song they've written simply because I think there are some very interesting things going on in it while it gives me the metal fix that I crave. While both Angel of Death and Seasons in the Abyss to me are the metal equivalent of Call me Maybe. Boring and predictable.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call them the ac/dc of metal. I think the Maiden, Metallica and Slayer(haven't listened to Anthrax, so ain't including them) all had significant influence over the metal genre. If you really want an ac/dc equivalent, I can only think of Sabbath who are worthy of that title.

I've done this several times, in High School. And I enjoyed the feck out of it, at the moment I'd rather put on Pop FM though.

I think metal wouldn't exist without Sabbath. Yes, their albums after Sabbath Bloody Sabbath were kinda gay, but their dark, heavy, downtuned sound from their first 5 albums were very influential in the boom of metal bands later on.

maybe because they wrote the book on extreme thrash....

it's a very apt comparison. they've both stayed true to their style and sound throughout their entire careers (bar 1-2 albums for both bands).

extreme thrash yeah, admittedly I don't really listen to much thrash these days besides tallica, megadeth, slayer and testament but to call slayer generic is stupd. it would be like calling beatles generic because so much music copied them.

    it's heaven and hell :agree:

they should've just taken that name in the beginning
