I'm listening to a CD I got from a local DJ, it's a group he knows and does some beats for. The CD is "Phamily Pheud" by "The Pham." And four songs in, it is not bad at all, it actually sounds a bit old-school, especially for underground shit. It's odd because most underground people try to do what is popular, and that's pop, not true hip hop.
But the way I acquired the CD is sick, funny, and fuckin' awesome:
Me: "Yo, what are all those CD's in your bag?"
Paige: "Ohh, that's a [rap] group's CD that I'm sort of promoting."
ME: "Are they any good?"
Paige: "Well they aren't mainstream, and they sound a little old-school, it's not what you are used to listening to."
Me: "Do you know what I listen to?"
Paige: "No."
Me: "Exactly. Can I get one of them?"
Paige: "20 bucks."
Me: "20 BUCKS? IS THAT A JOKE?"
Paige: "No."
Me: "What if I offer you something sick in return, something you've not heard of?"
Paige: "I've probably heard of them."
Me: "Ever heard of 'Little Brother'?"
Paige: "No. Are they good?"
Me: "Let me just get their CD for you."
I went out to my truck, got the copied CD of "The Chitlin Circuit 1.5" and gave it to him. He listened half-way through the fist song, and threw me two of "The Pham"'s CD's.
Even trade to me, I have 60 other blank CD's I could burn "Little Brother" back onto.
