I am not bitter why should i be, but if someone does not watch a game then he or she cannot know how well a team or a player performed

Ferrara was not brilliant in Turin and its a shame that we seem to be blaming either only Montero or mother luck on our failures

I saw nothing brilliant in Ferrara's performance against Man united and no defender actually came out of that game with any credit imo

We can either get quicker and stronger defenders or stick with what we got , I have no doubt that we will be a force to be reckoned with in SerieA but we continue to struggle in Cl unless we change our central defence, nowadays pace is essential and athleticism and we do not have a lot of that in our defence

I thought Ferrara made numerous very timely interventions, and I don't think it's possible to pin either goal on Ferrara. Hence- when he's leading a defence conceeding 3 goals I can't say he was great, but as he wasn't to blame for either goal I can't say he was bad either. In the situations where he was put to the test man on man I think he came through flawlessly. More pace from the central pairing would/could have only prevented the second goal. The two other calamities really can't be be down to your ever present speed argument when Zambr and Tudor give up 100% chances in the box IMO .

What is this god given talent you have, Glen? I mean in this case no argument but there is something about your posts in general that is so persuasive and makes it so hard to disagree. When I see the odd game (got myself cable since last time we were on this) and I start out reading with a view differing from yours, somehow through your magical powers you manage to sway me and by the time I'm done I'm completely in agreement.

And don't say it's just me, I've heard numerous political opponents concede the same effect.

One explanation could be however... that I'm so often being positive about Juve players when they're criticised that you really WANT to agree ?

Still- Denco and I do not disagree on Ferrara still being quality I think. The only disagreement is to what extend he can still hack it at the highest level. I'm inclined to think he can't hack it IF he and Montero plays together or at least against certain kinds of oppositin they could get burned, just like the other way around but with Montero these days being the weeker. If it was Tudor partnering Ferrara I'd still think we have a top notch center pairing, and for next year I think Ferrara could still be an awesome third choice, or competing with Iuliano for that spot depending on his by then 37 year old legs.

Denco I'd think (?) isn't too much in disagreement with that. We just disagree as to the hopelessness of our prospects in CL with Ferrara and Montero. I believe we can still beat everyone with them (but we need a bit more luck than I'd like) whereas he appears not to. As there's no way we can remedy our pre-season or january transfer campaigns now- I just don't think it makes much sense crying too much about it, as it seems Moggi is very intent on bringing one or more defenders in. Then we have to see if they're the right ones.

I sm glad you have so much confidence in the Montero -Ferrara combo, cos I do not and in Cl we cannot afford anymore to be conceding all those silly goals we seem to be letting in as anymore poor defending and we are out as goals at home count for double now.

I have even less faith in Iuliano and thats a major concern for me
Ferrara is a starter and has been since December of last season and some ppl seem to think he is there because others are unfit but the thing is that if everyone is fit , the first choice is Ferrara and Montero and in the last 4 cl games they have conceded when both or either is playing, 9 goals

Yes, maybe Ferrara would be better, but Tudor is pacier, and I thought that there was concern over the speed that Barca hs up front, particularly Saviola.

there is definitely concern over the pace, thats why tudor and thuram could be centre backs. The sweeper really doesn't need pace, he is just there to intercept things, mop up. He won't be exposed so his pace should not be such a problem in that role

You're probably right, with Tudor and Thuram marking Kluivert and Iuliano, and Tacch marking who ever is put on as playmaker. Zamby should be able to handle Overmars (that's very optimistic), and Biri should shut down Enrique (also optimistic), but that's better than anything that we could muster with a four man backline.

Barca Seek Home Advantage Against Juve

03/21/2003. Philip Cocu is confident that Barcelona will beat Juventus and believes that the draw has been kind to the Catalan outfit.
