What we Europeans have been doing for the past 3,000 years we should be apologising for the next 3,000 years before we start giving moral lessons to people," Infantino said to hundreds of international media.

He said Qatar and capital city Doha will be ready to host the "best World Cup ever".

"Today I feel Qatari," Infantino said.

"Today I feel Arab. Today I feel African. Today I feel gay. Today I feel a migrant worker."

Infantino blamed "crowd flows" in Doha for the decision, saying the beer ban at stadiums was decided on jointly by Qatar officials and FIFA.

"We tried until the end to see whether it was possible," Infantino said of allowing alcohol sales.

"If for three hours a day you cannot drink a beer, you will survive. Maybe there is a reason why in France, in Spain, in Scotland, alcohol is banned in stadiums. Maybe they are more intelligent us, having thought maybe we should be doing that."

The first statement, what an absolute cop out. What the fuck does that even mean?

When you say that you should expand on what hypocrisy in particular.
I think calling workers in Qatar “slaves” is very hypocritical.

It’s probably cringe that most south asians still support distant foreign countries in football, but calling them “paid fans” is also insulting.

Well no one is forcing them Westerners to play, no? They could have boycotted it years ago

If all the big nations said they won't play in Qatar when it became clear to the wide public what's going on there, you think FIFA would proceed with a 3rd world countries World Cup or they'd give it to someone else instead?
Can you see French or English football federations boycotting the WC? Their top clubs are funded from that part of the world and undoubtedly have influence on decision makers within their football federations. Coaches and players? No one would ask them, and the biggest names like Mbappe have to play for obvious reasons.

As long as you pay someone, doesnt matter the working or living conditions you provided him with. The fact that those "workers" had to sleep, eat, maintain hygiene and take a shit within 2sqm isnt important.

They had a program offering 10 eur and 3 meals per day to a fans from abroad to fill up the stadiums and provide positive feedback on social media. I think the term paid fans is correct here.

Qatar is giving them a chance to work that their natives countries aren’t giving them and most certainly a western country wouldn’t. People calling them slaves would want nothing to do with Qatar’s foreigners.

FYI their native countries (including mine) beg oil and gas countries to take people cause they need US dollars that these people send back to support the economy, to pay for imports- balance of payments.
Also in my country atleast, underprivileged people sell ancestral lands, take loans to send one earner to go abroad to earn a living. The earners then live in terrible conditions so that they can send money back, to pay off loans or support their families. And this practice has changed the living conditions of a lot of places that more and more people want to make the journey. They’re going willingly to change their fate. I don’t see how it’s not insulting to call them slaves.

did it really seem like a good idea before you posted it buddy
Obviously there’s some banter involved, but I really dislike all football associations remaining silent over the past years and now coming with meaningless statements only because they’re afraid to lose their face.

Im not talking about individuals like you and me, but the hypocrisy around the authorities and media is annoying.

The philosophy behind it is fine but the reality is that many of them were treated like slaves, that isn't just a name tag the evil West has given them to put honest workers down, there are numerous examples cited first hand by watchdog agencies and journalists.

It is true that they should have taken action as soon as the bid was accepted. At the very least in 2015 when there was the entire FIFA scandal following the FBI investigation.

But the fact is the "West" is not just the FA's of Western countries. The protests have been immediate and widespread.

Qatar 2022 organisers reject ‘fake fan’ claims

The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee has rejected accusations there are fake paid football fans at the World Cup, after videos of Indian expats cheering on the England team in Doha went viral on social media. Some greeted the clips with scepticism, although the Guardian spoke to half a dozen supporters on the ground who said they were originally from Kerala and displayed a broad knowledge of the England team and the Premier League. Other locals have been seen chanting their support for Argentina and Brazil.

In a statement the Supreme Committee said it rejected the allegations about fake fans, which they called “disappointing and unsurprising”. “Fans from all over the world – many of whom have made Qatar their home – have contributed to the local atmosphere recently, organising fan walks and parades throughout the country, and welcoming the various national teams at their hotels,” it said in a statement. “Numerous journalists and commentators on social media have questioned whether these are ‘real’ fans. We thoroughly reject these assertions, which are both disappointing and unsurprising.”

Hundreds of Indian fans shouted “It’s coming home” as well as “Southgate is our super coach! Sterling is our super star! Pickford is our super keeper!” as the England team arrived at their five-star hotel on Tuesday. One supporter from Kerala who led the chants described suggestions that he and the others were receiving cash to be cheerleaders as “fake news”.

“None of us is getting paid,” he said. “We are diehard England fans. My favourite player was Beckham, but now it is Saka. If someone offered to pay us to support England we would turn them down. We are genuine supporters. Many of us grew up watching Beckham and Michael Owen. Our love is to this team.”

Proof if ever it's needed that these are not actually England supporters :lol2:
