players falling like flies. what a brilliant idea to make them play 50+ matches per season in first place, then also to schedule the world cup so that it fully coincides with the regular season

there is no way it's not gonna be the shittiest world cup since i follow football (mid '80s)
This. It already is for me. I might actually root against my country of birth, and not sure what else is there to be excited about.

TBH, good for them for banning alcohol at the stadiums. I can't imagine a single Brit ever watching England play a WC match while sober. Dis is gonna be fun.

Your home, your rules. If Amsterdam hosted the WC and allowed everyone in the stadium to smoke dope and wear nothing but rainbow zebra tails sticking out of their anuses, go for it. But culture is part of the global experience.

And all the alcohol sponsors can f off for all I care.

Time and time again we have had issues with drunk English fans. BBC always blames the local organization. It's ridiculous. Brits drink obscene amounts of alcohol while abroad, usually underestimate the percentage of alcohol they're drinking (because they're used to piss back home) and destroy everyone and everything that comes near them. It's not really a big issue in other European countries though. In Italy they actually drink coffee at halftime lol. In Belgium people do drink and sometimes stuff does happen, but I don't think it's very alcohol induced. It's more stupidity induced.

But the simple fact of the matter is alcohol is a drug and it is perfectly acceptable for a society to decide they want to ban it. Especially when that drug has caused as much harm in the world as alcohol has. I have very little sympathy for the alcohol sponsors here.

The issue is not beer itself but doing a 180 two days before the first match, and they had 12 years to prepare for this.

They were always going to do exactly this, because otherwise they wouldn't have got the World Cup in the first place.

I’m from Middle East. I know exactly how those slimy mofos operate. It doesn’t mean it’s right though.

Yeah. I really really cannot imagine England fans know what to do with themselves at a WC footy match without being inebriated.

So we are going to witness fans smoking shisha in the stadium? I mean If the nicotine level is high, it'll cause buzz and light-headedness, something close to being intoxicated. Like if South Africa has Vuvuzela, then Qatar has hookah?

I think the bigger issue is construction on a lot of WC projects is still not finished 2 days before the tournament kicks off. But then again, half finished buildings and fan zones may just be Qatari culture for all I know.

This world cup has caused the deaths of countless immigrant workers.

I'm not getting upset about them deciding to ban a drug last minute. That's the least of the issues I have with it all.
Oh that makes sense now. These two issues can coexist though. Again it’s not beer but making a mockery of international bodies by some goat fuckers, while being completely predictable.
