They are yet to concede in the knockouts. That's surely not terrible. Actually, with the exception of Dzemaili's chance in the 120th minute, teams hardly created a great chance against Argentina in the knockouts. If there is a part of the team that made this final possible, it's the defense and the defensive midfield.
They have offered very little in attack though and scraped through a lot of games. They have not been convincing in any of the knockout games they played it has to be said.

This entire situation reminds a bit of early 2000
spain was running rampant and had 3 teams in the CL semi's. Only bayeren was europes hope against a spanish winner
Bayeren won the CL that year.

Germany is europe's last hope. Lets see if they can repeat it

They have been immense really, after the group stage the team has been growing match after match.
Yup.
And if there is part of the team that disappointed, it's the attack. They don't create enough and they don't score enough as a consequence. Mascherano, Biglia/Gago and the defenders are doing top job and they are the ones who took Argentina to the final.

Man, if Germany loses this final, they will undoubtedly have to go down as the biggest international chokers of the 21st century for all their talent, semifinal qualifications, destroying good opponents, and yet coming up short of the trophy countless times over the past 18 years. (Including at home in 2006.)

They don't have to create much really, their forwards are so clinical it is silly. With very few chances they can finish off opponents and enjoy their superior defensive play that makes it impossible for opponents to create anything close to a goal opportunity.

Oh, I'm always on that wagon. :D

And the way this WC has gone with records made and records broken, that's not entirely uncharacteristic of this tournament.
