2006 was pretty good to be honest. Not as good as some people have you believe obviously. I think because 2010 was so poor, people tend to exaggerate the quality of the previous WC.

Personally, i enjoyed France '98 the most among the ones i watched live. Maybe this was down to the fact that France '98 was the 1st one i was old enough to completly understand, but i definitly enjoyed it a lot.

Screw the Colombians and their goal celebrations. If the French NT has any hope of winning the WC this year, Didier needs to get them ready to do a remake of this video as their goal celebration:

I wanna see Pogba rock the Tecktonik against Germany, yo.

It's funny how many are rating 2006 as one of the good World Cups, Azzurri fanboys :disagree:
    Best final ever.

Nah, I realise that (again apart from the final :p) 2006 wasn't all that great, but my two favourite teams went on to go all the way. The final result absolutely crushed me, but exactly for this immense emotional reaction it managed to get out of me it is definitely my favourite WC subjectively.

As with all things entertainement, I try to differ between my subjective judgement and a somewhat objective judgement. I realise that this can never be done truly succesful, and anyone who says differently is either lying or biased to the point where he doesn't even realise he's biased, but I try my best.
To this regard, objectively 2014 is shaping up to be the best WC I have conciously witnessed (meaning out of 02, 06, 10 and 14). Subjectively, 2006 is miles ahead.

It is very clear that pure individual quality wise, this is perhaps the worst world cup ever since football started to be professional. And it explains alot.

2006 was a pretty good tournament, lots of quality, also alot of stars last appearance at a major tournament.
2008 and 2010 to be very honest explained so many things.

Spain had a great team, Germany mostly had its current generation barely out of their teens, Holland had 3 good players, Portugal's smaller "golden generation" that never delivered when needed, and that was about it.

2012 ? Still more of the same. And Italy showing how good tactics could dislocate any of those teams

2014 ? Spain is gone, argentina sucks, brazil worst generation in history, germans forgot how to german, france is decent but far off 1985/1998 generations, africa forgot it could play football, portugal back to mediocrity, Belgium plays the best football, and holland still has those 3 players doing everything.

But France is deservedly back without that Domenech scourge and Colombia's player and coaching quality is finally shining through. And Chile got f'ed over with the brackets.
