The awful refereeing of the Japanese referee was a nice silver lining. Yesterday, they put a Portuguese referee to officiate Croatia-Cameroon. The strange thing about this is that FIFA decided (after the 2006 wc) not to put a referee from the same continent as one of the teams. European refs used to officiate WC matches between two European teams, but not when only one of the teams was from Europe. With yesterday's appointment of Proenca to officiate a match of a European and African team, that silly rule exists no more.

I notice that there is a Chilean ref for Italy-Costa Rica, which must be some advantage for the Costa Ricans. It seems very difficult to avoid these things.

Personally I'd have qualifying criteria for referees, a universal ranking table, with a limit of 2 from each country. Now they are just spreading them out for 'fairness'. I'm sure the referee from El Salvador is great and all, but this is a World Cup.

Cheers bro :D

We really should have $#@!ed off the piece of $#@! Holger Osieck after he nearly compromised our WC qualification early last year. Thank $#@! we have a proper coach now. Seriously guys, Ange Postecoglou is great.

@Bianconero_Aus

I saw an article here in Brasil about Pim mouthing off Aussie chances against 'His' Netherlands. It was thanks to this gutless wonder we stood little chance in the 2010 WC with what was ostensibly a stronger squad (though like Italy, we too needed to have shed some of the old dead weight from the team like Moore, Neill and so on even back then). What a prick ey...

Yeah, fuck that piece of shit. No thanks to him and that other conservative dickhead Holger Osieck.

These two clowns refused to cut out the deadweight like Lucas Neill and Mark Schwarzer, and bring in the young blood. Our team was badly in need of fresh blood after the World Cup in 2010 and the Asian Cup of 2011, but it didn't happen. Thank God Ange is in charge. We have a bright future ahead of us now.

And yeah compared to the South African World Cup…wow…polar opposite. 2010 in South Africa has to be the worst tournament ever put on my FIFA.

My only critique of this World Cup so far is the shoddy defending by most teams. Sure, it's contributed to a lot of the good goals and plenty of goalmouth action, but the standard of defending now compared to the late 90s and early 2000s is massive.
