Well I'm thinking that's exactly why they are not satisfied with his performance for the national team. They think he's not giving his 100% for the NT.
If you watched him for Barcelona last season, you'd have said the same thing. He was walking through most matches for Barcelona, at the time people were saying that he was saving himself for the WC, but now he's in the WC, he's still doing the same thing, i.e not being his old explosive self.

I'm pretty sure and i'm sure you are too, that those were not a representative sample of Argentines, it would seem quite safe to assume that he'd probably be a fan favorite back in Argentina.

the criticism that he isn't playing well by his standards is most definitely warranted, that goes to show how high his standards are though, because he has single handedly decided most of Argentina's games in this WC, sure he doesn't show up for most of the game, but those moments of magic at the end are what has got Argentina this far, I think it would be safe to say, nobody can argue with that.

I don't understand whats so hard about giving a player the credit he deserves, and then going on to slant him and say you hate him. The two aren't mutually exclusive, you can hate a player and still give credit where its due.
They're just mad he's not as good for Argentina as DP was for Italy.

Of course they don't represent the whole nation but it was still funny to me to accidentally meet some Argentinian football fans and realize that they don't even like the guy that much :p For a player of his :gsol: grandeur and status :gsol:, you would expect a random sample of his people to at least show minimum appreciation for what he's done so far :seven:

selective perception and self fulfilling prophecy come to mind.

Oh, and of course Fred shows up to defend Messi :D
I want to have his babies.

apart from the nigeria game, every team hes faced arranged their defense to stop him, and he still found a way to hurt them. Also i think it's important in WCs to manage your stamina levels by doing the bare minimum as much as possible.
Can't argue with that, though as a neutral I'd have preferred to see the old explosive Messi.
