Im not denying that. All I was complaining about is Burke stating that a good ref HAS to be from Europe as if he's denying the possibility of such a quality ref coming from Asia which just happened to be at the same time a couple of Asian refs are doing a brilliant job on the biggest football stage while European ones are generally fucking up.
Or perhaps they're discriminated against because they don't officiate in a better league. Possible?
If we go by this refs in the better leagues have more pressure on them argument, wouldn't referees from Medellin and Buenos Aires be better refs? After all, they are pressured to get the correct call OR ELSE they might be physically harmed.
So in terms of making the right call under pressure, the South Americans would probably be the best fit for that, wouldn't you agree?

I'm absolutely gutted. I don't remember ever being this depressed after a football game. I liked both teams, but because I saw the game in Antwerp (which is very close to Holland, so everyone was in oranje), I started to cheer for the Dutch myself. There was a lot of joy when Holland scored that second goal. And then it hit me. Offside. Yet another game decided by a bad call.

They are, only they have a corruption problem. For the same reason you have to be wary of Italian refs IMO. But officiating in the J-league or the MLS means fuck all to be honest. It is no basis for a World Cup.
That said, even the best refs will fuck up now. The game is very fast, the players are all cheating whenever they can and offside is becoming a lottery. The refs need help FFS.

Sure, observing every single detail and football shows that last for hours where even a badly taken throw in is discussed, will force you to pay more attention to such details and become a better ref, but there is also another thing here, and that's how the game is played. You can't compare the football played in the top leagues with the football played in the Croatian league or the Finnish league. The football is faster, players run more, things are happening faster, you have to run more and be everywhere, see everything. Players in the Croatian league run some 2,3,4 km on average less than their Italian or English counterparts. That makes the officiating easier in Croatia.
