That's not it.

Here is the deal.

Parents who send their kids to play soccer, are doing so hoping that they get a scholarship, instead of hoping that they become professional.

As twisted and fucked up as that sounds, it DOES fly in the face of the conventional american parent who takes their kids to sports in hopes that they turn pro.

Its twisted logic, I know, but he makes a great point.
Spot on, Sergio.

Every sport talks about recruiting the "athlete"... the Bo Jackson who can be molded into a football star, baseball star, basketball player, or whatnot. Sadly, none of them are molded into soccer players because the money in this country -- salaries and endorsements -- just isn't there.

It's a rational financial choice of any budding athlete in this country. You don't get rich becoming a soccer player -- you do going NFL, NBA, or MLB.

Players in Argentina and Brazil, etc., certainly love the game. But you'd be a fool to not also recognize it's those nations' #1 way for a poor kid from the slums to rise from poverty to become a media and financial superstar.

One things for sure; 'soccer' fans in this country live in a complete state of denial.
About what?

Soccer is never going to be a premier sport in the United States. But that doesn't mean we can't be successful at it.
It might not. But never is a harsh word. Much of the time when folks say "never" they're proven wrong in the end.

The NFL, the NBA, and the NHL are all predicated upon size. The bigger you are, the stronger you are, the more successful you can become.

Soccer isn't built that way, you can be 5'7", 150 lbs, and be successful.

Here;s the problem though. You can be successful at that size in baseball, too, and we all know where the roots of the country are in regards to sports culture.

The ONE sport, like soccer, where size doesn't really matter, also happens to be in the same country where the one sport that has been a tradition for almost 150 years shares that same idealogy

Similar to how you don't get rich by becoming a football player in India, but become a cricket star instead.

Get rid of football at the university level. Create a team in every city or a couple of teams in every big city. Create a professional league around these teams and create youth leagues under each team (U-12, U15, U-18, etc). A kid will join his local team (youth sector) and if he's good enough he'll reach Division I when he's of age. He can attend college at the same time. That's the European model.

Germany simply raped them.
and yeah it should have been 2-2 and maybe be other game?no!!

Germany simply better, they stoped this English momentum and killed them.
played sharp,smart,great.

I wish Italy were near that level.amazing.
Glad England are out!!!!
hate them so much!(not more than Inter and MU thought)
and i think Argentina has what to worry about.
It would definitely a different game if England goal for 2-2 was correctly approved by the ref. Although Germany is the better team but the second goal for England will lift up their morale and give them momentum while it can affected bad on Germany players..

Also Germany 3rd goals started from stupid Lampard free kick that the rebound ball given away by Barry while all English players almost go forward to equalize. Do you think the case will be the same if the score was 2-2. And the 4th goal also started from Gerrard corner to Joe Cole and his cross is blocked and there is chance to counter attack. I don't know if this set-piece attacking set up was so worse because Capello instructions or their willingness to push forward

Size is something you develop for competitive reasons. Nobody really starts out that way.

If poor kids in the US were like those in the slums of Rio or Buenos Aires -- where they learn their #1 ticket to fame in fortune is to play soccer, not in the NFL, NBA, or MLB -- it would be a whole different story. American soccer needs a kind of affirmative action program for stupid people who all used to go to places like the University of Miami for their fame and fortune (because it certainly wasn't for the education).

A different game for maybe 15 minutes. Germany was owning England. I see no way Capello's tactics and England's flaccid defending could have spared them from humiliation with another goal on the sheet.
