What Andy is failing to recognise is that there is no conspiracy theory. I am stating facts. I'm not even connecting the dots. But here are the facts for you:

- The refereeing is, as always, very poor.
- They can't use video replays, which means they get offside wrong all the time. They could very easily use a system that would always get the offside calls right instantly.
- The ball is shite.

This makes for a very random tournament and one I'm not enjoying.

It was acceptable all in all until the Germany-Serbia game. Linesmen were doing quite well too until the NZ-Italy game.

Bigger teams get to do their jobs done despite the referring mistakes most of times but it really could change a lot to the smaller teams. USA might not qualify and the same could happen to Swiss and both have the refs to blame to a certain extent.

I have just the solution for you: stop watching & go do something else.

Linesmen were doing exceptionally well even. As for the Italy situation, I can understand how they messed that up. Took me a few replays to realise it myself.

I would need more of an arm swing for me to call a straight red for that. Or more of a pointed elbow in the face. We got neither. Sure, he flung back a limb, but it wasn't all that different from a stiff-arm. Even Kaká didn't get a straight red for that yesterday.

The worst thing is that you don't see the refs following a specific and defines set of standards.

Not every situation is an exact replication of another. Sometimes they require interpretation of the situation, as in the red card today. But as the game gets quicker and more physical, then the refereeing becomes more difficult. And that's why perhaps instant replay needs to get a look. The officiating just seems to get worse every year, and it's not good for the game.
