I think that Korea had the better run of calls during the match against Italy, but it isn't some sort of conspiracy. Were they hard done by? Maybe. Did they deserve to win that match? I don't think the Italians did enough to say they did.

But when you also add in the fact that they believe the Scandinavians... the Scandinavians of all people... fixed their match to knock Italy out in 2004, then that settles it. Some Azzurri fans are tinfoil hat-wearing, Area 51-obsessive, UFO-wannabe-abductee conspiracy theorists.

You can't even admit they were hard done by vs. Korea? Holy. Italy and Spain were both eliminated by the referees.

And if Byron Moreno's refereeing was A+ then why did FIFA admit he had made mistakes? Why isn't he a referee anymore?

Spain was screwed over, certainly.

Some Azzurri fans seem to have this revisionist mentality when it comes to these things. They tend to over-exaggerate.

But OK, I will admit that Italy were hard done by if folks admit they didn't deserve to win that match. Deal?

Usa in 1994? Favored? Nope
France in 1998? They got a red card in the semis.
Japan in 2002? It was so easy to favor them. Turkey in the 1/8 finals and Senegal in the 1/4 finals. It was so easy to rob "small" teams like Turkey and then Senegal. But nope. Japan loses to Turkey.
Germany in 2006? Nicht.
South Africa in 2010? Doesn't look like it. Penalty and red card at 0:1.

Only the team that eliminates the Azzurri was favored because "they were the hosts".

2002 was as fair as any other world cup. The Koreans deserved their success.

FIFA must have known they were made by the Italian investigators, so they decided to turn against the home country this time and send South Africa packing.

These Azzurri guys are real Dick Tracys.

Not really, it was decided months before the tournament started that this particular semi final was to be played in Naples. The better team lost? there was no better team, they came out even and the penalties decided the whole thing.

And do you want to know what was the best scene in that match? Walter Zenga swallowing his chewing gum when Caniggia put the ball past him in the net.
