Who said that the refs favor the hosts in world cups?

Usa in 1994? Favored? Nope
France in 1998? They got a red card in the semis.
Japan in 2002? It was so easy to favor them. Turkey in the 1/8 finals and Senegal in the 1/4 finals. It was so easy to rob "small" teams like Turkey and then Senegal. But nope. Japan loses to Turkey.
Germany in 2006? Nicht.
South Africa in 2010? Doesn't look like it. Penalty and red card at 0:1.

Only the team that eliminates the Azzurri was favored because "they were the hosts".

2002 was as fair as any other world cup. The Koreans deserved their success.

Well, maybe they didn't quite deserve it with their performances, but it had nothing to do with ref help, imho.
well the infamous ref from that italy-korea game never reffed an international game after that, but you do have a point in the azzurri and their fans complaining more than others but you didnt need football to know that :D

Also, I think we should hear what the neutrals have to say about this. We know the opinion of the involved parties. Grey on one side and the Azzurri fans on the other side.
I would like to hear the opinion of those who are indifferent about the Azzurri. JCK, Andy, Burke and the likes.

You have to possess the ball to score it, do you not?
and that is the mistake in the equation ...

its not "have the ball" equals "can score"...

it is more "have the ball in a dangerous position (penalty box)" equals "can score" and if you fail to do this ... (look at barca or spain today) then your possession will not give you anything.

one can be a fan and still be objective, especially if the instances were as blatant as the ones in that game

I agree and the conspiracies that the Azzurri fans and fanboys come up with are really boring. How can they explain their exit in 1990?

You didn't need to mention 1990 dammit :wallbang:

I deliberately didn't mention it because it didn't go well with my theory that the hosts aren't favored by the refs.

LOL. Basically the host thing can only go so far, but I don't think it is a conscious attempt. As if FIFA would take such cynical money making and interest gaining attempts, fairytail stories, if only. I'm being sarcastic, or maybe I'm not.

France got a red card though, come on :D They also won the tournament for the first time ever. But away from the silliness, oh, no, it still is silly. :snoop:
