It was reckless and De Jong should forever be branded a dirty player. Remember he broke Stuart Holden's leg in a similarly reckless challenge before the World Cup.

Plus he's flying through the air, and that's soo cool.
I don't consider De Jong a dirty player, but he is certainly aggressive.

I haven't seen the tackle on Holden.

shame cruyff is turning into pele
Cruyff is so committed to attacking, possession football, he was also going to criticise Holland.

low on many respects, one he never coached in the WC let alone guide his team to the final. And as the numbers show his adopted country was hardly impressive in attack. Both teams played ugly and for a dutch to come out and strictly criticize his homeland shows the guy is a weasel.

It's just that his recklessness occurs so frequently.
Yeah, i'm sure his intention is not to break the opponent's leg but he surely needs to measure more the situations he gets involved in, considering
the position he plays and all.

But he doesn't come close to vicious players who intend to hurt their opponents I.E Roy Keane.

Imo it was reckless, bad intentioned i don't think so.
Yeah, just looked slightly mistimed to me.

Cruyff achieved plenty as a coach to have the right to pass comment on others.

He can say what he wants, but he can't really expect to go out and try to play attacking football when they would have almost no chance of winning like that.

He's an idealist, and I won't criticise him for that, but I like how the Dutch played and they found a way to go further than the players in their team should have allowed them to.

he didnt accomplish jack in a world cup and whatever he did was such a long time ago, that his words carry no weight, and like i said add to do the fact that his national side lost in quite a painful fashion makes it even worse.

He was still managing fifteen years ago, which isn't so very long.

I don't see the problem in what he said. He dislikes how Holland played, so he said so.

He hasn't claimed Holland could have done any better if they had tried to really play Spain, just that he didn't like the tactics.

no hes always like that hes a weasel "It's the Spanish players who are better to work with. Dutch players already start to say 'Yes, but' when you open your mouth to speak."
and 15 years ago is an eternity, just look at us.

As much as I adore Cruyff, there is certainly a part of him that wanted holland 74 to be recognised as the benchmark of Dutch football, not a less flamboyant team such as the one in the final yesterday. No doubt about it.
