Any claim in which a person puts themself up on a pedestal (i.e in a position to be shot down) is rather interesting in my book.
Oh, but it's the one thing you can't hold against me. I mean.. hypocrisy? I know Andy calls me a hypocrite all the time, but that's only because he likes the word and doesn't really know what it means.

Just because they didn't score... doesn't mean they did not try. Australia had a couple chances after the second goal, one in which Kennedy shot wide. Serbia started to wake up after the second goal and Tosic seemed to get a bit too much space to work.

You simply make no sense, and are ass-backwards in a number of respects.
Australia didn't try. Look at the game again. They never tried to score a third goal, it was all Serbia.

I didn't say the claim was unreasonable.

They didn't, Andy.
When they scored the second goal the normal thing to do was to get back asap and play for the third.
Instead, they spend 2 and a half minutes celebrating the 2nd goal. WTF?

And then they give the Serbs all the initiative, while they waste time during throw ins and waiting for a counter.

The Serbs were in shock, the Aussies knew that they have to go all in and score a third and a fourth. Instead, they give the ball to the Serbs, they waste time and they defend with 9, waiting for counters, when there are only 10-15 minutes to go.

That was very stupid logic.

It's because they go home to a country that says "well done, lads, 4 points, hey cheer up, it kind of looked like you may have gotten close".

And instead they should shoot them all. Trying to qualify didn't even cross their minds.

His confidence is probably shot after all the chances he missed against Serbia.
Confidence has nothing to do with the fact that he was just standing around, neither helping Boateng nor making at least a jog forward. He was sleeping. When someone passed to him he was always surprised and lost more than half of the balls. They play in the space for him and he isn't even looking. Not involved at all.

It seems like Australia didn't push forward because they didn't believe that they would be able to qualify anyway.

They wanted to go out on a high with the win against a team better than themselves.

They should never have come to the World Cup. They should have offered their spot to a team that cared.

Its not that they don't care just that they will be happy to leave with a win under their belts because there are no expectations on them to advance.

As long as Asia, CONCACAF and Africa have the number of spots they do now there will always be teams like this who will be happy just to beat somebody better than them even if they go home early.

Eh, who cares. Let them celebrate if they wish. They were caught in the moment after a very difficult first couple of matches. Australia almost scored twice after that long celebration, but they came up short. Seemed to me their strikers were tired.

Again, this stuff just sounds like sour grapes. I won't explain why Australia should get some credit again though.
