    Alex dreams of Azzurri glory
    Saturday 8 July, 2006
Alessandro Del Piero is tipped to start against France and admits to play a World Cup Final is every player’s childhood dream.

“I’ve never come this far in my career, so it’s only natural that the tension and excitement is growing with each hour,” he said after today’s last training session in Duisburg.

“I have experienced many important Finals, but to lift the World Cup trophy towards the sky is a dream I’ve had since childhood. I hope to make that true and take it back to Italy with me, but I know I must use that tension positively.”

The Juventus star has mainly been used as a substitute so far in this tournament, but there are rumours he could start out wide on the left side of midfield in a staggered trident attack against France.

He was tested out in support of Francesco Totti and Luca Toni this afternoon and looked to be in good shape after scoring a late strike in the 2-0 semi-final victory over Germany.

“This team has all the qualities required to win. Of course, we undoubtedly are facing a great side and a World Cup Final must always be against the very best. Anything can happen and we must remain concentrated on our strengths.”

Many of the players in the French side won the competition in 1998, whereas none of the Italian stars have been in that position before. It's also an opportunity to make a point for Del Piero, who famously missed several great chances before the Azzurri lost the Euro 2000 Final to a David Trezeguet Golden Goal.

“If we say that France are the favourites, it’s down to superstition, but also because there is an element of truth in there,” added Del Piero.

If DP starts, I think it should be for Camo rather than Perrotta then he goes to the right as DP takes the left. Perotta's energy in that midfield is a must-have especially for this game. He can be in defence and attack for 90 minutes but I still hope we stick to our last starting XI.
One thing of recogning though is that DP is probably one of the most motivated in the team given his wish to exorcise the nightmare of 2000 so it might not be that bad an idea, but only if its 4 Camo

Even when DP got motivated by the goal... I still have the image of him being invisible in finals.... and when the team needs him.

But given the circumstances.... this time, by coming from the bench i have the feeling that he will do a huge impact at last. lets hope so.. i think he is prepared like never before for this game.

But lets pary that the starting 11 will seal things before DP comes in.
