no brad friedel for the states?
he's a very good keeper.more reliable than tim howard imo.
Friedel retired from international football and that's why Hahnemann is in the side as well.

Wow one should really think a couple extra seconds before talking condescending about the states huh.

Okay, where is the serious discussion that I am derailing?
Like I said, one more offtopic post within this thread would be warned, and you indeed keep going on about me.

So keep it up and you'll be following your little friend stickyicky out the door. Hell, your IP address matches that of another member, and we'll see what the verdict is on that one.

But for now, keep talking nonsense to get yourself banned.

USA star Landon Donovan is keen to banish the memory of his failed stint with Bayer Leverkusen by impressing in this summer's World Cup in Germany.

Donovan spent an unhappy time in Die Bundesliga with Leverkusen before returning to his homeland and regaining his form and confidence.

The 24-year-old is set to lead USA's attack this summer and Donovan is desperate to impress against the world's best and prove his worth.

"Germany didn't work well for me," said Donovan. "That's not the reason I'm here, to show them.

"I've learned my lesson. Our styles don't match. Maybe it's too brutal, I don't know.

"It's hard for me to be successful over here. It just doesn't go well with my style.

"I've never had a better chance to do well in Europe against good competition as I'll have in the next few weeks."

Beasley anxious to get the nod
June 5, 2006

USA midfielder DaMarcus Beasley admits to being frustrated at not knowing whether he will be in coach Bruce Arena's starting eleven for the World Cup.

The 24-year-old starting in 13 out of the 18 qualifiers and scored four goals.

But coach Bruce Arena has decided to delay naming his first XI until just before kick-off.

"It's irritating not to know," Beasley revealed. "Of course it's better to know. It helps you get your mind set. It wouldn't matter to me if I'm on the right, the left or the middle.

"But I don't even know if I'll even be playing the first game. He hasn't made up his line-up.

"That's the way he works. He knows a player wants to know a week or two before. Every coach is different. He does it his way. He's not going to change his position for the World Cup," Beasley continued.

"He hasn't told us yet. You get used to it. But I think it would be better if we trained with our first XI for a week or five days."

USA open their campaign with a difficult fixture against Czech Republic on June 12.

I don't exactly know what Bruce will decide to field obviously, however I'm fairly convinced he will field the usual 4-3-1-2 against the Czechs and Italy and also field Beasley because he has the experiance. I hope, however, that Beasley will not be included at the expense of Convey who is on stunning form at the moment.

Convey is probably the slight of stature blond you saw striking free kicks. He's decent striking a dead ball and has a very accurate left peg. If he gets the start for Bruce he will be sharing the free kicks with Donovan most likely.

I think Bruce is a great coach. He may not be very much in touch with the European game, or not a manager to lead a European club side to glory, however he knows how to get the best out of what he has to work with. I love how he studies opponents and builds our team to counter the playing styles of the opposition instead of just playing our own way...because we don't really have our own distinct style, obviously.

Arena seems to give the side confidence and that is important when we face top sides such as Portugal and the Czech Republic. I also love how Bruce isn't afraid to take risks. All in all he's simply the best coach the United States has ever had and nobody comes close to touching him. :star:

yeah he is very decent

And i see ur points abt him, probably he is the best american coach ur country will ever have.

abt bruce u said he likes to take risks then why didnt he take Freddy Edu? Could be a winning card although he is young, Bruce could've followed the like of klinsmann and Ericksson.

I thought Eddie Lewis was the midfield specialist, I expect the Usa to do fairly well, not sure they will emulate their 2002 success when they should really have beaten Germany, they had so many chances. If they had a world class striker , they'd have been more dangerous as theyare definitely very organised and what they might lack in skill they make up for in commitment. Czech rep, you just never know with them as they seem to be aging but on their day , they are very good. Italy , well I think they will start well as Lippi's teams always do, its the final that Lippi seems to have a brain block with. Ghana, I was not impressed at all in African cup of nations and to be honest Cameroun, Nigeria even Senegal might have represented Africa better, with better football, but we shall see. I was hoping to see what the fuss was about with Essien and to be honest , i thought his presence made Chelsea more boring than usual

Maybe, but we still have a bunch of great soccer brains coming through the ranks and still many years to come.

Freddy Adu is simply too young and has not performed well enough to be included in the squad over anybody for that matter. While he is talented he has not yet lived up to expectations, however again he is simply too young and needs more time. Taking Freddy at the expense of another deserving player would not be entirely fair.

On top of that he plays in the MLS. A league that even Coach Arena has blasted time and again for not being the quality of Europe, a place in which Feddy hasn't been yet. Next world cup will be Freddy's shot.

Eddie Lewis is a left wing specialist and could perhaps fill the left-back role as Bruce experimented with him there several times and he excelled. Lewis also has a good left peg and is a good crosser of the ball. The real midfield specialist for us is Reyna who is the link between the defense and attack.

Oh and fellas. I wouldn't worry about the Czechs any more. I've got them covered. I'm learning their ways, drinking their beer, sampling their women, and becoming more and more like them everyday. Bruce Arena is number 2 on my speed dial and he knows everything I know. So come game day, its all gravy.
