I am no fan of Capello as you all know as i just do not feel he has the nous to make this Juve team to be as good as they can be. He has the players , believe me, he just does not know how to use them properly
You see teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, and most of all Liverpool and you just marvel how they are able to produce performances which are astonishing when you consider the personnel they got compared to Juventus esp Liverpool.
What Rafa has done there is very commendable and they won the Euro cup mainly because of him
Milan 3 Liverpool 0, that was the first half score and by brinnging on harman who completely nullified the very influential Kaka, they with a bit of luck, not only went on to equalise they won the cup
Fast forward to Milan vs Juve
Milan 3 Juve 0 , in the first half, what does Capello do, even after having knowledge that Milan have just recently thrown away a 3 goal lead in the final of the biggest cup comp in the world, he should know that if they conceded 1 goal early they will be very nervous, but what does he do, he just folds his arms as he is wont to do and brings on subs too late and we could only score 1 goal

Well after watching Chelsea and Mourinho, how many times does he makes substitutions at the right time to change the game in his favour?
But thats not the main reason i wrote this thread, i feel we could copy Chelsea in 1 crucial aspect which i feel can help us, they have Gudjonsen whom is very technical and underated but not the best finisher in the world, he was playing as a striker but even though he does score goals he is very wasteful, so what has Mourinho done, he transformed him into an attacking midfielder
Now who does Gudjohnsen remind you guys of, well to me its Zlatan, he is very skilful but very wasteful as a striker, he hardly scores tap ins as he does not have those instincts at all and he is prone to be offside but he is to me too valuable to drop, so why not play him in the midfield, he has the skills and is far more creative than anyone in our midfiled roster barring Camo
Whats the point in having Emo and Vieria when we have no creativity in the midfield
I say we play Zlatan in the midfield with Vieria, camo, Emerson, and then you could have either Mutu or dp partnering Trez

Or if we are so much better than the oppostion play 3 at the back , and play zlatan, camo, nedved, emerson with again Mutu/Dp and Trez and at least we will be able to totally dominate the likes of Sienna not just outscore them

but Zlatan's positional sense as a midfielder could be a problem with him trying dribbles and getting caught out of position. Playing in a free role behind the strikers could be better as an attacking mid it does not matter as much if he is badly positioned.

but as Martin said no harm in trying (espacially as it would free up a space for Del Piero up front )

thank u deco, that was what i always thought of but didn't right.
Zlatan has the right buid and power and tech. to fill in for nedved, he could when the ball and create some stuffs from a completly dead ball, but i think thier is one problem.

Zlatan dont pass the ball, he'd rather lose it than pass it, but i think this can be fixed .

yeah we could do like chelsea playing 1 big guy upfront ( TREZ ) , 2 wingers (camo,nedved) , 2 defensive midfielders(emo+viera) and one attacking midfielder (zlatan).

Fantastic Post! I agree 100% except the part about Capello.

This is what ive been saying for years, even when Zlatan played in Malmö many years ago, back then Zlatan made it clear he didnt want to play midfield but as the years has passed he has warmed up to the idea and even said that he could concider playing in midfield in Juve.


I remember back against Fiorentine last year when capello was screaming at Zlatan for playing too downfield, Zlatan ignored him that time and what happened, he dribbled two players, passed to Zala who backheeled to Zlatan who then had run past another two players and struck a goal. That match ended 3-3. I doubt that would of been the scoreline if he hadnt gone on his own intuitiuon and stepped down pitch a little.


Even now, very often when he plays he doesnt hold the position of a striker but instead searches himself downfield to be able to build up and pass his teammates.
Capello doesnt scream at him for soing so anymore though, so my hopes are pretty high that one day me might play as a attacking midfielder.

Atm he has the most assists of any player in Sria A, thats not exactly typical of a striker.

He should have a go at it atleast.

Great analysis, Denco.

However, I think putting Zlatan on the midfield would be a mistake. I've seen him on the midfield at Ajax once or twice in friendlies (not too much to go on, I realise) and it confirmed my suspicions that it's an unsuitable position for him.

The thing about Zlatan is, as you said, that he lacks striker's insticts. Which is precisely the reason why he never became top scorer at Ajax (or never very convincingly anyway). Their traditional 4-3-3 system sees two wingers throw passes to the centre where a striker like Filippo Inzaghi or David Trezeguet (to stick with Juve examples) finish them off. A forward such as Zlatan will always struggle with those.

So on that note; he is more suitable for the midfield. However, he is a very forward minded player. Eye towards the goal; whatever he does, he usually does with the intention of scoring. That is why I think the partnership between him and Trezeguet is the best one Juve have to offer at this point in time. Let Zlatan play up front, and put someone else there to make up for his lack of striker's instincts.

I would, however, send Zlatan onto the pitch with the additional task of creating havoc by occasionally dropping back to midfield or 'in between the lines'. His creative skills will offer some confusion and extra opportunities. Put some midfield players (possibly wingers) around that who switch flanks when they can and I believe no defense in the world would be safe. This more or less approaches what Ajax tried to do on several occasions when Zlatan was still playing there but it needs to be pointed out that the players surrounding him were either not good enough, or not experienced enough. As talented as the Ajax side that reached the CL quarterfinals a few years ago was, it was never experienced nor balanced. This is where Juventus are better and would thus get more out of Zlatan's potential.

well watching arsenal tonight vs united i wasnt marvelling them, so poor in midfield.

i might be old fashioned but i like 2 play 4 at the back and its worked for us.

No harm in giving it a shot, but Zlatan 's reluctance to release the ball early and his consistent urges to try shots from 40 yards out might deny our forwards the service needed if we're to focus our attacks through him. We could compensate for that by having Mutu or Del Piero drop deep as well so as to give Emerson and Vieira an added option for a pass upfield though.

Good. But do you really think that Zlatan can play as a midfielder. He has Technical and dribbling skill and he's very tall. His dribbles only works in near the target and I think his post as partner of Striker trez is the best he can perform. He can control the long balls very nice even better than any player in the world.
