00/01 pretty bad. The next Rob Carlos (Athirson) and the new Zizou (O'Neill) plus Paramatti and Carini who was tipped to be a great. Bearing in mind this was a year that we were supposedly increasing our squad for a CL trophy push..
These were all mentioned to be subs, we already had Zidanne, Davids, Conte, Maresca and Tacchi. Its much more difficult for those players to shine against established players, they were a calculated risk and the loses werent that bad.
We spent peanuts to get them, Moggi was able to sign them without extra money from the Agnelli's.
On the contrary, we spent 40 mill on 3-4 players, of similar material for some players that would supposed to be starters... thats a real blow that matters for the performance of our team!
(about Carini)
We dont have any better keeper subs right now and wont be able to ever swap Belardi with a Cannavaro...
Mercato that year forced Zizou's hand to leave (upon signing Buffon, Nedved etc he comments: a shame they couldn't have done those sorts of moves when I was there).
They didnt forced him to play horrible and get all those red cards, he just had an off season and there was a series of external reasons that forced our decline, the performance of all the team was also influenced by these reasons. A flop is when a good player fails to do what another player (not that good on theory) is able to do under the same or similar circumstances. Zidanne had his very own reasons to leave us, he lost his motivation, he wasnt effective any more, he was dreaming of a team that would be able to hand him glamour and titles with the minimum efforts, his wife recommandations convinced him to leave us...
Besides we couldnt afford an all star team back then, we couldnt sign them without the financial boost his departure gave us. It wasnt a problem of choices or wrong decisions...
Compare this year, newly promoted team re-signs the greatest GK of the modern age as well as several Italy WC champions and the highest foreign scorer in the club's history and adds CL experienced subs in Grygera and Sali as well as some promising younger players. We also keep Chiellini through a tough negotiation who is looking more and more world class as the season progresses. Compare our influx of players to Napoli who were in the same boat as us and we are looking pretty damn good IMO.
We are Juventus FFS, keeping all our stars would be a success, but we failed that miserable, you picked up the wrong excuse, we sold half of our team last year with minimum prizes. But we were forced to do and lets assume we had no other choice.
BUT this year we had the financial power to keep them, (the proof is that we did kept them after all) This year we had a full transfer season to hunt some targets and even sell some of our stars who valued their wages more than their Juventini hearts, we had the time to negociate and sell them, for a reasonable price and replace them with younger material.
It was our choice to keep them, from the start, all these scandals and the risk to lose some of them in the end, was another fiasco with a cost to our stability and also damaged our image. If you really think that DP and Neddy would leave Juve, you are wrong, why would they provoke a scandal and harm us?
If those players really wanted to leave us, our current managers would stop them!
Esp Buffon, it was HIS choice to stay, not Secco's skills to keep him!
We can always try and find a positive point of view on everything, but thats just hilarious...
Grygera and Salih were the last Moggi deals, they were pre-contacted before the beginning of the transfer period, they didnt concerned Secco's time, they were just an extra added boost, won by Juve's name alone, not because of the managerial skills of our noob managers.
Our noob managers were "owned" in every single transfer negociation they got involved, they paid super sums for unproven players and even huge sums for the players we already half-owned!
Instead of paying 40-50 mil for Tiago+Almiron+Andrade+Criscito, they could bring in Milito and Mascherano with the same cash, that was their choice, they were not forced to do that...they had no excuses this year, go ahead and excuse them for the next century if you wish!
Dont forget that the brand Juventus, if it is used properly, has enormous potential, a potential that no other newly promovated team has, not even a serie A mid-class team, can be compared with our current potential and financial status. And dont get me started with the Fiorentina deals,
we have NEVER been owned that much before!
