atm our options are vdv, castillo and diego
I'd also like to see VDV with us, but I doubt it will be unless he's willing to spend his 1'st year with us fighting our way back. I wish you meant the Mexican "hot-shot" Castillo but you mean the Ecuadorian, right? Diego seems a dream too...

What about you, Rami, VDV or Mancini, reasons why, & is either likely to happen?

Well, Mancini of Roma is almost impossible...Roma won't sell him (if they ever thought to do so) to direct opponent...
As for VDV, I admire this player a lot...I see its possible to snap him up this year, as Hamburg don't wana lose him for only 1 mil euro next year, and i don't see him signing a new deal either...
It's our chance now to get him....
If we wanna sign a left winger so we should go for VDV, but if we are looking for play maker, then Diego is the solution ;)

hamburg won't lose him next year for 1.5 mil its 2009 not 2008
so they can sell him next year and he rejected to extend his contract

Dutch midfielder star Rafael van der Vaart has threatened to quit Hamburg if they do not improve on last year's disappointing season.

The former Ajax man - who is Hamburg's stand-out player - was left disappointed after they spent the first half of last season battling relegation and, while he is captain and has a contract until 2010, even his own team-mates think he may leave.

"I believe he will stay next season," defender Joris Mathijsen told Bild Sport. "If we have a good season then he could stay; if not, he will go."

The player himself confirmed that a big improvement is required if he is to consider continuing his career at a club which surprised many by winning the race for his signature in 2005.

"It could be that I leave next year," Van der Vaart said.

"I have always said, honestly, that one should never promise anything in football."

Van der Vaart's contract expires in 2010, which means he would be free to talk to other clubs from January of that year. He also has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for £1 million from 2009, so his value would begin to decline from the end of the 2007/8 season. Subsequently, he is likely to either be sold or sign a new contract as early as next summer.

Whatever happens next season, a move at some point is likely for the 24-year-old Netherlands international, who is keen to try his hand at Spain's Liga.

"It must be a big club," he declared.

"It is my goal to play at a club that is always challenging for the top places in the championship and victory in the Champions League."

Van der Vaart has scored 27 goals in 59 domestic and European appearances for Hamburg.

If we're going to sign van der Vaart, sign him now. If we're going to sign any replacement for Pavel, sign him this summer. There is no point in waiting for him to retire and then finding a replacement, as we should have the youngster play under Nedved for one season so that way he'll have a season under his belt when he becomes the only true starter. That's what intelligent sides do with youngsters... not buy starlets and stick them on the pitch or loan them out to other clubs. We might as well just take a sword and chop off our youngsters' toes. Loans and co-ownerships... fuck off with that shit.

I like Mancini, but he has a suspect temperament. Just like Edgar Davids did, he can let his side down by being sent off! But he is a talent! The subject of this thread, Van Der Vart, good player, yes, but the contractual & therefore money problems involved don't make him an easy choice. Diego...a dream!

Anything further to add, Andy, like a comment perhaps on how guilty Juve are of missed opportunities by lending out & ultimately losing young promising players?

If any, those two are not realistic targets, esp Diego and Secco brougt you Almiron arent you happy with that?:p

He is not more impossible than VDV or Diego, he is as expensive as they are
and its probably the right time to sign him since Roma got Giuly now:cool:
Inter proved with the Chivu deal and Barca proved with the Milito deal that the team with the best offer will take the player in the end, even if they are coming from the same league. Roma is desperate for money, they have to sell Chivu or Mancini (or both) if the proper offer appears, buying both of them would bring us realistic hopes for the title...

Well, how many players have we loaned out that have come back to take a roll for us?

I think that says it all really. :D

our midfield is packed..until some squad trimming happens i dont see us getting another midfielder
some ppl mention him coming to play under nedved.....not happening if he does
a player like him will demand a starting role for negotiations to go through
but a much welcomed addition imo

If VDV comes, then Nedved can draft to a play maker role...which is better for him at his age.

Given that Ale normally misses 1/4 of season through injury, I don't see why there won't be enough playing time for Nedved, Del Piero and VDV. I think VDV can rotate between midfield and attack.

After all, his game/goal ratio is nearly 2/1 in Germany. Given the quality of the league, and general attacking approach Bundesliga (for detailed info, see Sateeth's previous post which contain some cracking info on the style of various leagues in Europe), I think that will probably translate into something like 3/1 or 4/1 in Serie A. Hardly prolific, but for a man who normally plays midfield, that is some record. I think he is a viable alternative as a forward if required.

Quaresma, DVD, Robinho are my personal favorites to take over Nedved when the great man retires.
