First year in College( Although it's Community college, because I have no money to get in regular college, for now :p)

Going to to get an AA before transferring for a BA in International Relations & Law, and maybe a minor in Journalism or Economics.

You're looking at it from the wrong angle I think. I think many people want to get educated, but most importantly they need to get higher degree to get a better job eventually as it's not possible to get in without it, unless you have some strong connections. As for the loan, it's not cheap but it's not 'working 10 years to get your money back either', it's more like 1 year in the most countries I think.

Not to mention the huge unemployment rate. There are far too many people with lower degrees waiting to get a job at this point. You might work Nick, but not everyone can get a proper job without school. And no, I don't think those who finish uni are guaranteed to have a better life than those who have high school, I don't disrespect them at all.
Dude I think people going to Uni to study something they want to study and then go into that field of work is great but then when they show zero dedication, choosing to get wasted every night, skip lectures and just pass off their course like it's nothing because they're not paying for it in a sense. If the fee's came from them day one they'd treat it abit more seriously instead of one big party.

Regarding the loans mate, I've got two mates who get 10 years to pay back their loan.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying university life! If you go to uni and do nothing fun, you lose out on 80% of the university experience!!

I feel I balance my course and enjoying myself well, giving both enough time and dedication, though i might lean more towards the fun side of university, i.e. parties, mingling, girls etc.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why most of the students love that period of life. :D Unlike highschool here you don't have to attend lectures and many (not to say majority) decide to fuck around for 4 years.

That's horrible. Jesus Christ, how big are those loans? Or their salary is just low?

@Dooz

They got around 7 grand but because they're not working it's held off paying for until they finish their course(3 years) then they get a relief year(4) Then they get 6 years to pay it off. God knows who they slept with to get that.

Anyway guys, I'm going off topic. I just wanted to rant, bad day at work so far :p

I think I am more on Nick's side here. Enjoying university life, while also applying yourself to your studies, is fine, but when people just want the "free ride" and then waste the educational aspect it irritates me.

A lot of my hatred for them is personal, though, as I am not a party person and I enjoy learning and want my "peers" in tutorials to be similarly minded.

That argument follows the line that is similar to the 'everyone on benefits are scroungers and dont want to work'. Its the loud minority you are talking about, one that is aided by all the media surrounding students....because no one wants to know the exciting life of sitting in the library reading and spending weeks writing your essays. My undergrad got really fucked up because my EX's mum died in my first year so i had to deal with her depression for 18 months aside to trying to balance a social life, job and my uni course. I came out with 59 because of the 18 months where my marks got destroyed by being on call for my ex. The reason i really need to do this MA is so that i can prove my worth and also because i love learning. (that isnt a sympathy call, thats the reason im doing it)

I understand that there are fuck-wits that go to uni to take a vocational course and party but i only knew a couple of people like that - everyone else worked there balls off to get decent grades and are now entering a job market that is dead. People need to start dying and retiring earlier...its one of the biggest causes of unemployment at the moment but no one is prepared to publicy state that.

I should clarify that I was mainly speaking from personal experience of the kind of people I hated when I was there. I never said a majority of people do it, I am only referring to the ones who do.

I'm in my fourth semester of a masters in Strategic Human Resource Management. Would have loved to pursue an M.A in history or international relations, but i'm stuck with HR, boring stuff if i'm to be honest.

Industrial engineering. The classes suck dick and one of my teachers is the devil's spawn but other than that it's alright. Getting wasted on Friday.

Oh and I just met some Mexican kids who are down to kick the ball around, I need the exercise. Sweetness.
