Don't like him at RB, can't cross and doesn't make enough runs on the flank. Good CB, good enough to start for Juve? I don't know.

REDS AND SPURS CHASE UJFALUSI - AGENT

Tomas Ujfalusi's agent claims Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in the Fiorentina defender.

The Czech Republic international's contract with the Viola expires at the end of the season and a clutch of clubs are chasing the 29-year-old.

Ujfalusi is considering his future with the Serie A club and has previously intimated at a move to Spain next summer.

Sevilla, when coached by current Spurs boss Juande Ramos, had been long-time admirers of the former Hamburg centre-half.

According to Ujfalusi's agent Dalibor Lacina, the Uefa Cup holders are still keen, along with Premier League duo Liverpool and Spurs.

"Tomas is right, it is 50-50," Lacina told Sport when asked if the player would leave Fiorentina or sign a new contract.

"A lot of clubs are interested in him, we will decide in the summer.

"The clubs which have been questioning us about him are Internazionale, Juventus, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Zenit St Petersburg, Tottenham and Sevilla."

But Lacina did not rule out Ujfalusi making a late decision to extend his time at Fiorentina, who he joined in 2004.

Lacina added: "Their captain Dario Dainelli extended his contract two weeks before its expiry and the same may happen in Tomas' case."

UJFALUSI `NO` TO EARLY REDS MOVE

Tomas Ujfalusi has rejected the chance to move to Liverpool in January, according to one of his agents.

The Czech defender, currently with Fiorentina, is out of contract in the summer and a host of Europe's big hitters are thought to be poised to make him an offer.

Along with Liverpool, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Zenit St Petersburg are all said to be keen to sign him on a free transfer.

Fiorentina want him to stay and have offered him a new three-year deal, while Liverpool - who have both Daniel Agger and Sami Hyypia sidelined - want to take him to Anfield early.

But with a £500,000 deal believed to be in place between the sides, Ujfalusi has informed all parties he will make a decision on his future when he is ready, which is unlikely to be in January.

"I have to respect his decision, nevertheless it has surprised me a lot. Liverpool rarely give this offer twice to one player," Pavel Paska told CTK.

Fiorentina's sports director Pantaleo Corvino admits Ujfalusi will not be rushed.

"Ujfalusi has clearly and politely announced to us that the interests of the club will not be taken into consideration in the pondering of his future, that he will make a decision purely by himself," said Corvino.

"We have offered him a three-year contract. He is 29, so we could not do anything more."

Apparently behind Ujfalusi's stalling over a new Fiorentina contract, there is the Old Lady. Juventus would like to sign him on a free transfer in summer in order to bolster their defensive line for next year.

Fiorentina have in fact already offered a new deal to the Czech Republic defender, but the player is still taking time to think about the offer and wait for any better ones that might come his way.

In fact, the Bianconeri can offer Ujfalusi double his current wage with the Viola, and therefore the player is in no rush to sign the Viola deal before the end of this month, when - with all probability - he will receive pre-contract offers from different clubs.

Should he leave Fiorentina on a free transfer, Juventus have now become the firm favourites to sign him.

I believe we will get him and he is a better player than Grygera who could become useless for us.

I wished in either Jan or in the summer:

Ufalusi and Amauri bought in
Govinco, De Ceglie and Marchisio brought back from Loan

JUVE EYE MELLBERG SWOOP

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has confirmed the club are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg.

Mellberg has been strongly linked with a move to Turin, with the player yet to sign a new deal at Villa Park.

The Swedish international's contract expires at the end of the season and reports have suggested that Mellberg has agreed a pre-contract with the Italian giants.

Gigli played down talk that Juventus had already agreed a deal for Mellberg, but confirmed he was one of a number of players they were keeping tabs on.

The Juventus surpremo admitted the club are looking at free agents including Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool.

"Ranieri is satisfied with the squad to which we will add a couple to play in Europe," Gigli told Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"At the moment we are focused on signing players who will be free agents.

"We need a few more players who are available for a free transfer. Mellberg, (Tomas) Ujfalusi? We are following them but they are not the only players we are interested in."

Gigli also declared that Juventus were hoping to sign Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart.

Van der Vaart is believed to be considering his future at Hamburg and has previously admitted he would be interested in a move to Juventus.

"Van der Vaart is one of many players that we are observing," added Gigli.

"We like him very much but at the moment we prefer to sign players who cost nothing."
