Right, I'm off to Madrid tomorrow morning for the Athletico v Aberdeen game, get back on Friday.

About 5,000 Dons fan travelling, should be great.

I am concerned that we may well end up being humiliated becuse our defence has been terrible lately and Athletico have scored 4 goals in 4 of their last 6 home games.

Cheers, we'll need it.

Lets say that I'm not totally confident that the mighty Zander Diamond will be able to stop Aguero.

Well I'm back. Good trip, lots of beer, nice city, arsehole Spanish Police. 6,000 well behaved Dons in the stadium according to the Spanish press

As for the game, we lost 2-0, but competed with an extremely good side. After the first 5 minutes when Athletico could have scored 3, we matched them for long periods and restricted them to relatively few opportunities. They scored a minute before half time from a penalty after a stupid challenge by the Aberdeen player. They scored again half way through the 2nd half from a free-kick (which was a dive by Forlan) that hit the post but went in off our keeper. We had a chance at 1-0 and a couple at 2-0 but never looked like getting anything from the game.

Aguero wasn't really in the game, though he did win the penalty, as our CBs did very well and Diamond booted him up in the air, so he was subbed at half time. Motta was also very good.

There was some trouble outside the ground before the game when Athletico threw flares and bottles at Dons fans. Dons tried to respond but were charged by mounted Police which resulted in a few Dons ending up in hospital.

Anyway, proud of the performance and chuffed we weren't humiliated. The second best attack in La Liga failed to score against us from open play.

I'm glad to hear you had a nice trip, minus the police who should protect the away fans normally since they are the minority. At least nothing happened to you. How do you rate Aberdeen's chances to reach the next round now?

Our chances are slim at best.

We need Moscow and Copenhagen to not win next matchday and then us beat Copenhagen at Pittodrie in the last match.

While I would never say I don't care, it was a major achievement for us to get into the group stage and since we have avoided embarrassment so far, I view the UEFA Cup as mission accomplished.

Glad to see you got back ok. I was a bit worried when I saw that there had been trouble. Aberdeen have put in an official complaint, I think.

Yeah they have.

The problem was that the Police were dying to step in, and I suspect that was due to how Rangers have behaved in Spain in recent times.
