Red Star Fans Attacked In Thessalonica
Three Red Star Belgrade fans have been reportedly wounded with stabs after a major battle took place early on Thursday at a Thessalonica café a few hours before the Aris vs Red Star tie for UEFA Cup.
On Thursday morning about 10 people on motorcycles, wearing helmets and carrying wooden sticks and knives attacked them attacked to several Red Star fans. Who were enjoying city’s seaside. Eye-witnesses suggested that there was an open battle with chairs flying between the two sides.
According to hospital sources, three Serbs are being treated with leg injuries from knives, but are not in danger. However, a police said reportedly that one of the men was seriously injured.
Club’s president Lambros Skordas accused non-Aris fans for the incidents.
"Some fans of other clubs have their own reasons to spoil our party. The party is on, though, regardless of the final result and we are not backtracking on that."
Last year, Aris’ cross-city rivals’ faithful were attacked by Red Star fans during a basketball encounter between the two sides in Belgrade.
Police believe actually that the attackers could be PAOK fans. Red Star’s rivals, Partizan, fans are affiliated to PAOK fans.
