this holden thing is hilarious, hypocrisy!
The United States is a nation of may peoples.

The reason I dislike Guiseppe Rossi and don't mind players like Subotic and Ibisevic is that they don't "define themselves as American off the pitch and Bosnian on it". Rossi's a huge idiot and while his decision would have been initially difficult to swallow a lot more people would respect the decision if he would have said "I'd just rather play for Italy" instead of painting this picture of dissected identity (which is complete bullshit).

While I have no hate towards Rossi I'm totally with the Americans on this one. Rossi is an idiot for choosing a country he hasn't spent more than 3 or 4 years in.

I'm not talking about the Irish hating him. Of course you hate him. You have every right to.

But look at the reactions from other countries. They WANT to hate Henry. And not because of the handball. No, because he's French and because they feel he's arrogant.

What I cannot stand though is that the Irish are suddenly considered to be the nicest players on the planet. Not so long ago Roy Keane was playing for you FFS. If Ireland, who proved nothing during the play off, are knocked out it's a scandal. If France are knocked out, people say it was rough justice. That's what I have a problem with.
    True.

Fuck other countries, seriously, it's all a big outrage when something happens that they can't actually change, but when something can be done they're all silent.

Of course Roy Keane was dirty, let's not forget Giles as well kicking lumps out of people but this team, as in the team of the WC qualifiers were, down to a man (and discounting McShane) nothing but honest, hard-working and fair playing footballers.
You kind of need endearing traits when you're shit.
Stephen Hunt is one of the biggest cunts in modern football

That is quite probably the most retarded thing anyone has ever said on this forum. It just doesn't work that way. It never has and it never will.
Obviously, in international politics it quite clearly doesn't work that way, and is quite foolish of an approach. Bush didn't make too many allies in stating that nonsense as the statement is vague and doesn't allow for any wiggle room from a diplomatic perspective.

But in football, who cares about that shit. Rossi is a traitor to the USSF as he played ODP ball but "felt Italian on the pitch." He did indeed choose against us, which is in his right to do, but still makes him a traitor.

There isn't a single reason why I should like the player. And knowing you, it's pretty obvious that you'd hate the guy as well if he didn't choose the Azzurri. "I feel American on the street, but Italian on the pitch."

Come on, the guy is a fucking retard.

Sort of like this guy. But in spirit of Mein Führer...

Wrong. It would only be hypocrisy if I said Scots didn't have a reason to hate Holden. I said I can see why they would.

TBH I feel he could have chosen either team. Italy makes a little bit more sense though, considering the fact his parents are Italian, Rossi was probably always called an Italian in the US anyway, and most importantly the fact that he did play some of football as a kid in Italy as well. He's no traitor to the USSF. You don't have to like the guy, but calling him a traitor is ridiculous, especially considering how many players of the American NT aren't really American.

It isn't ridiculous at all. If they can play for the US, they are American because they have citizenship. Again, that's all that matters.

And you're wasting your time here. Rossi is a traitor and every single time his name comes up I'm going to call him a traitor. If he wasn't a traitor, he would have chosen us, his home.

But instead, he comes up with some bullshit and looks like a fool. He deserves to be treated poorly.

Thing is Andy, something you never really understood, nationality is viewed differently in other parts of the world. There is no definitive way we can use to judge someones nationality. You're making it sound as if its all so simple.

I understand that, but it doesn't help Rossi's argument. If he wasn't American it might matter.

Nationality is very simple. You either are, or you aren't.

Loads of people have American citizenship that don't feel American and don't consider themselves American either. That's why i think you guys should stop giving citizenship so easily. But then again, the liberals would probably come out and call that racist.

    Certainly they would.

But all of this doesn't matter when it comes to Rossi. He said himself he considers himself an American playing for an Italian team.

    He's a traitorous moron.

I don't know about Rossi. Perhaps he was saying that to fan the flames, so that Americans won;t completely hate him.

I know Italians are like Arabs in the sense that wherever they immigrate, they rarely forget their roots, and always uphold their heritage. So i wouldn't be surprised if Rossi didn't consider himself American at all.
