Freddy Adu weighs up interest from Hull and Aris

Adu, 20, is currently on loan at Portuguese side Belenenses having spent time last season at Monaco, but the USA international has struggled for playing time and goals in Europe so far and looks set to move on to a new club in January.

Writing on his Twitter account, Adu has said that he is currently deciding between a move to Hull or Greek side Aris Thessalonica, adding: "I have some tough decisions to make. I have a pretty good idea about what I want to do because it's about playing time and my development."

Adu will be keen to secure regular first-team football to bolster his hopes of playing in South Africa.

There's absolutely zero chance he'll make it to the World Cup in the summer. Unless all of Rogers, Holden, Dempsey, Donovan, and Beasley get injured, Freddy is staying home.

He better not go to Hull. He doesn't have the body to play in the Prem, neither the pace, so he needs to go to more finesse league. But just watch, he'll end up there in England because the moron marketers will push him there, ending his career. Sometimes I wonder if anybody, even Freddy, has a brain in US soccer.

I haven't really watched Adu in action enough to form an opinion, but don't you think EPL is a more suitable league in general for American footballers than the Liga or the Serie A?

I mean i think players like Altidore, Dempsey, Charlie Davies and the likes are much more suited to the more physical EPL than they are to Liga or Serie A.

Adu is half Altidore's size. And I think Charlie is suited for France.

Maybe Altidore because of his size and speed, but certainly not Adu. He's far too small for the Prem and isn't that quick of a player. The whole argument during his MLS days was that he would always get pushed off the ball at that level and so he needed to bulk up, but he really hasn't that much. It was then suggested by me and others that he should stay away from the Prem, something that is clear as day because it's more physical than the MLS, and head to a league like Spain or France. Adu excels when the ball can be kept on the ground and is at a slower pace of play in midfield. That's why you see him performing at the U-21 level or during a few matches in Portugal.

Dempsey can play in England because of his good size and decent speed. While I think Davies could succeed in England, I like him more in Spain or France.

The only enticing thing about the Prem for American footballers is that they speak English there.

Ha, well Fred, I'd say that Altidore does have technical ability, but just hasn't shown it in England yet. And as you know, at times the English game squashes out the more finesse style of play, even for lesser players.

Many Americans fit the English game because college football is quite a lot of pace and strength, but we do have the likes of Freddy, Torres, and Gil who are finesse players who probably should not go to the Prem.

But i've seen Altidore play for the US. I don't know, maybe his technique looks better when playing alongside other more physical players. But from what i've seen from him, he isn't all that good technically.

The American game like its British counterpart seems to focus more on physical ability than on technique and finesse.

It depends. At the NT level, we really on speed and fitness, but the domestic game is always changing.

I don't watch the MLS and i don't think i ever watched a game from there. But that has always been my impression of the US NT.

Spike Lee joins U.S. World Cup bid committee

NEW YORK -- Spike Lee wants FIFA to "Do the Right Thing" and award the World Cup to the United States in 2018 or 2022.


The film director joined the board Monday of the USA Bid Committee trying to win the right to host soccer's top tournament.

Lee is a fan of Arsenal and is a season ticket holder of Inter Milan. He often is seen at Knicks and Yankees games in New York.

England, Netherlands-Belgium, Russia, Spain-Portugal, Australia and Japan also are bidding to host both World Cups. Indonesia, Qatar and South Korea are bidding for 2022 only.

FIFA's executive committee will vote in December.

Other U.S. board members include former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
