I've heard counter-facts (from some black leaders in the U.S.) that the prisons aren't filled with primarily non-violent drug offenders, largely because release programs don't keep them for very long given the bursting-at-the-seams prison population and they're the first to be let out.

So the notion that U.S. prisons are simply filled with non-violent drug offenders could well be an unfounded wives' tale that people keep repeating as if it's fact.

Regardless, there's a misinformation war in place which basically clouds a lot of any useful discussion about race, poverty, and incarceration in America.
Black, white or purple. We put way too many people in prison. But it's a lucrative business so what can you do?:boh:

High risk doesn't mean anything if it's still the second most lucrative business worldwide after petroleum. Sorry, had to point it.
It's really hard to be a good drug dealer. Better to just invest in private prisons.

swag, will get back to your post if you want but I'm starting to find that event very insignificant; wouldn't be surprised if either it was the same for you or if you just don't even care for my reply anyways. I understand your point, I hope you understand mine even if you might not agree with it.

See Greg's post above.

Also, drug trade is high risk. Look at Freeway Rick Ross. He lost everything and now some fat guy has his name.

that is chump change, the money generated from taxing the thing would eclipse that. as for rick ross, child please thats no big dog, in the words of the immortal of nino brown:"Ain't no uzis made in Harlem, not one of us in here owns a poppy field"

If prisons weren't lucrative, they wouldn't be privately owned. As Aaron said, we put way too many people in there.
