You expect us to care about every little whitwat that goes on in Africa but you haven't heard of the battle of Trafalgar?

Why don't you just quit your annoying habit of posting these useless remarks along the lines of "What's going on here" and "I don't know who I am"

It got old real fast :lazy:

Exactly and as a result, it's barely a rivalry at all. Unlike Portugal-Spain and Holland-Germany; where the feelings of rivalry are mutual.
actually at the time, the feeling was very mutual. the british and french were the top two powers in europe in every way. they had the two best militaries and the two best generals in europe in bonaparte and wellington. the british would refer to the fench as frogs and the french would refer to the british as god damns on account of their language under fire. after napoleons eventual defeat the french were bludgeoned by the rest of europe and even indochina up until the 98 world cup when they became 1 for 200 in world confilcts. the french indifference today in the rivalry is more do to them getting beat by everyone else not them being super nice people.

Today marks the bicentennial anniversary of the battle of trafalgar
here's an excerpt

The Battle of Trafalgar was to witness both the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte's plans to invade Britain, and the death of Admiral Lord Nelson. It was never going to be any ordinary battle, and quickly acquired a heightened, almost magical, reality.

During the engagement at Trafalgar, on 21 October 1805, the Royal Navy annihilated the greatest threat to British security for 200 years, but lost Britain's national hero in the process. Little wonder the battle transcended the mundane calculation of ships and men, victory and defeat. It guaranteed Britain's control of the oceans, the basis of her global power for over a century.

on a side note nelson once said: You must hate a frenchman as you hate the devil.
Cool, welcome to the forums.

Congrats.

oh and the belguins absolutely sucked. they spent most of the war on the side of napoleon up until the battle at waterloo. there they were under command of the prince of orange. a dutch bastard who many believed to be slightly if not more retarded. at waterloo the belguin infantry and calvary could not fight there former emperor and were rendered useless.

Oh. We used to have one of those in Dublin, but the IRA blew it up.
:howler: Smart move

Enron - we know all this; nobody was discussing the past of the rivalry, just its present. And when discussing history; one would do wisely to put aside personal views and stick to facts for as much as they exist.

    Even worse ;)

Which worse? Most notoriously city wars in the medieval Benelux where cultural differences marked long struggles for centuries.

regading Franco-Anglo rivalry, its still there, and they do care.

During a quick visit to poitier's and Civray, the banter with the the locals was still as passionate as usual.

Do the french dislike the english?? Well from first hand, a lot of them do.
