with frings, in any system that DD will play with he will need someone next to him that would provide the distribution to the players upfront. He could provide the short passes from the backline to the wingers or the attacking midfielders.

so effectively playing a zanetti or gianni next to him would be like suicide.
i dont know if paro can handle serie A but he has the talent for it and same goes to marchisio

another option would be bringing in Almiron or pushing neddy or camo in the midfield.

Don't forget that we won two Scudetti playing two defensive midfielders. Frings is probably also better than both Emerson and Vieira when it comes to distributing the ball.

:agree:

Next season our cb's are unlikely to be that great so it will be important to have a midfield capable of offering them enough protection

Originally Frings started as a right wing back....and I liked him on that position, back i WC2002 and werder. Im Munich,he became a DM.....an he is rather average there. But Diego...hell yeah,I was saying that few years ago when he and Robinho gone famous in Santos....
I'm sorry, but I have to correct you. When Frings came to Werder from Alemania Aachen in 1996 he came as a striker, the position he played in Bremen at the beginning, too. But after a few games only, the Werder coach of that time, Dixie Dörner, put him in his now well-known position as an RM.
In 1997/1998 and the first half of 1998/1999, Werder had massive problems in the attack so Frings was often fielded upfront again by coach Wolfgang Sidka. Werder played 3-5-2 at that time, so they did not even have a RB.

After Sidka was fired, Felix Magath was Werder's coach. He did not believe in Frings' qualities and was hardly giving him playing time at all.
A few games before the end of the season, Thomas Schaaf became Werder's coach, saved the team from relegation and won the Cup final vs Bayern. Frings got back to his beloved RM position.

In 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 Frings played both RM and RB. The more defensive position he had to play when Schaaf was unhappy with the performances of Namibia's international Razundara Tjikuzu. But both media and Schaaf liked him better in midfield. In 2001/2002 Werder played 3-5-2 again and Frings was back in midfield. 2002 he left Werder for Dortmund.

In Dormund, he did not became really happy, so after to years, he went to Bayern. What he did not expect when he signed his contract was that Felix Magath would become Bayern's new coach. He knew him from his Bremen days, and like in that time, Magath did not have any faith in Frings. He was destined to fail and he failed. He went back to Werder after just one season in Munich.

Back in Bremen gave him his old position in the RM. But he knew now that he could field him also in DM, like it was done in the NT.
Now he plays RM in Bremen and DM in the NT and is very important to both midfields.

Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings is on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Juventus in the summer, according to German press reports.

The 30-year-old Germany international took advantage of a day off from training with Werder to fly to Turin to meet with Juve bosses, who showed him around the stadium, training facilities and the town.

“I am here and have had a look at everything,” he told German daily Bild. “But I will certainly not make a decision as to how things progress before next Friday's game against Aachen. The fight for the title is far too important for that. A decision will be made in the next few weeks.”

Juventus are said to be offering Frings a contract worth 6.5 million euros per year (£4.4m per year, or an equivalent of £85000 per week), though would still have to agree a transfer fee with Werder Bremen for the move to go through.

The North German side have offered the player an improved deal running until 2011 worth 3.5 euros per year. His current deal expires in 2009.

Werder sporting director Klaus Allofs revealed “the saga should soon be coming to a close.”

The bolded part, that has to be bullshit.

That's the cash Juventus offers Bremen to buy out the remains of Frings' contract there, not how much he gets paid a year. That'd be wild, 85 000 pounds a week.

thanx Allta for the info

i see frings playing more in center position in Bremen, as i thought Schaf plays in a more diamond type formation. So hes playing in a more seedorf type role.

anyway we need him to be a CM and just like Sadomin said, playing him next to Zanetti wouldn't be the worst thing in the world

This is how it works in Bremen...

In Bremen he naturally plays RM. He's been playing that position since before he went to Bayern and does it when the rest of the midfield is fit.
Normal Werder midfield (no injuries):

----------------------Diego----------------------
------Borowski----------------Frings----------
------------------Baumann (C)----------------

Now that both Borowski and Baumann are missing, Frings often plays DM even in Bremen like he was doing with the NT. It looked mostly like this this year:

---------------------Diego-------------------------
---------Jensen--------------Frings/Vranjes-------
-------------------Vranjes/Frings----------------

or like this (with Borowski):

---------------------Diego-------------------
--------Borowski------------Jensen---------
--------------------Frings--------------------

His best positions are definetly DM and RM. I personally like him better on the RM position because then he shows that he can actually give a lot of creativity to the team, plus he can do some decent crosses, one of his abilities not too many people know about.

i dont want to be a spoilsport ... but people are talking about tactics involving frings as if he already signed.

as for his trip to Turin, he just might want to explore options or increase pressure on his club to rise his wages.

if there is anything official please inform me, i might have missed it
