Motta got it wrong...but I never expected the team to gel within the first 10 or so games. Add the injuries...the newbies taking the needed time to settle in...he needs more time and moreso for a handful of players to stay fit and get on the park.

We made wholesale changes this summer and yet there are plenty of glaring holes in this side. Motta is not without fault obviously (not able to figure out what to do with Yildiz being one), but he can only work with what he got.

Short memory is a big issue here it seems. I think you all should chill.
We’re coming from 3 utterly disgraceful seasons that showed no signs of real improvements and a complete squad revamp in one window. A bunch of unproved youngsters and a squad that’s still riddled with injuries, which includes our best defender and possibly best player performance wise.
I agree he should stop experimenting so much but it’s not that easy when players oscillate as much as ours do. They will do well one match just to put on a bad performance next. Even those we’d agree should start haven’t really been solid.
Having said that he should pick a starting team and stick with that no matter what. Give them time to gel. I think we’re doing okay given the context of our situation but there’s certainly a lot of room for improvement.

I agree with everything said. My only thing to add and it shows here in the matches is that he should have played more pre season friendlies to implant his philosophy and figure out the best formation.
IMO guintoli is more is to blame here leaving some important signings like Koop, Nico and Chico till last 10 days of mercato , but there was no reason not to play another 2-3 friendlies to experiment with guys like Fagioli and mbangula and yildiz to see how they handle his tactics.

We’ve clearly regressed. We’re solid at the back but absolutely clueless up front. It doesn’t help that he keeps changing the lineup and capitans. Enough with all the experiments.
This is what has surprised me the most so far.
Regardless of how players performed the previous game(s), his squad selections & substitutions seem almost completely at random to me.
I was wondering last night if that has to do with fitness levels. I know they're analysing all physical parameters & data these days, up to the smallest details. So if player A's physical condition is 0,01% better than player B's, does that mean player A is automatically starting?

Not sure how a few more friendlies would have helped much if injuries are still a major issue. And it’s not like everybody is playing their best at those matches either. I think we have to accept the fact this is truly a transitional season.
An unproven coach (at the big stage at least) with unproven players, so maybe lowering our expectations would be the right thing to do.

Im inclined to just concede the point regarding playing too few friendlies, and give a small win to this bald pussycat, so that he can finally move on and not disturb the peace and unity of the community. Yeah?
If we had to lose or drop points as we needed to rotate players in anyone of the lazio, stuttgart or inter games it was the stuttgart game, the league is paramount this season and Motta clearly sees this, besides we had a strong start to the CL prior to the stuttgart game.
Inter are miles ahead of us. I would take a draw and run with it.
Based on what we see, and the change we are trying to make, Motta needs a full year. I expect to see more consistency next year, similar to Arsenal under Arteta.

I don't know if Mottism ever included a 3 man defence but we have a lot of ingredients for it. Since we have no RB, Weah suits a right wing back better and Cambiado as LWB. Then Yildiz can play closer to Vlahovic and Koop/Chico on the other side.
Also Cabal and Danilo are neither fullbacks nor CBs they're more like 3 man CBs at this point.
