Dialogue is the weakest part of the sum total of fairly entertaining adaption (Are they talking about Yennefer with feminist? LOL, this is how she is exactly in the books, if anything tv series is way milder). Besides the slow pacing in parts in certain episodes (episode 4 was a snooze fest), because they were jumping between 3 different narratives where they showed 3-4 seperate timelines spanning 30-40 years, in fast way, made it harder to build character attachment.
But it got going well after episode 5. Its challenging to make a season out of a convoluted first book thats entirely of just short stories, all not connected in terms of long spanning time frame, this season like the first book, is about the world building/introduction. Understand it to a point, the Mages and how they shape the kingdoms are huge part of the books backbone.
The real consistent linnear story should start when Geralt and Ciri meet and things unfold. IMO they should met in this season sooner, or just save Ciri entirely for season 2, way they did was bit weird compared to books, where they met in enchanted woods. But the monster fantasy adventure and cold blooded straight socio-political dark cynical world story for him and her should kick off for real in season 2 as it did in later full on sequels are full fledged novels. A story becomes more interesting when its more narrow. Geralt felt like a passenger in the last 3 episodes, because of how they were building the big conflict that shapes the world.
P.S Cavill is THE PERFECT casting choice ever for Geralt (that sword fight in beginning was Geralt to a T). Couldnt been better, hope he gets better writing to work with for season 2 (which is why I was half-wishing this series was done by HBO instead).
