I’m glad I didn’t read any reviews or read the whining here before I watched it. I’m two episodes from season finale and so far enjoying it a lot. Looking forward to a second season.

There’s of course some cheesy and cringe moments but show me a fantasy movie/show that haven’t got those.
GOT was almost like a Mexican telenovela at times. I’m glad Henry Cavill nailed the Witcher character, can’t think of anyone doing a better job now.

I’m halfway through the season. It’s pretty enjoyable.
The show isn’t cringy apart from the dialogue, which is crap.

Dialogue is the weakest part of the sum total of fairly entertaining adaption (Are they talking about Yennefer with feminist? LOL, this is how she is exactly in the books, if anything tv series is way milder). Besides the slow pacing in parts in certain episodes (episode 4 was a snooze fest), because they were jumping between 3 different narratives where they showed 3-4 seperate timelines spanning 30-40 years, in fast way, made it harder to build character attachment.

But it got going well after episode 5. Its challenging to make a season out of a convoluted first book thats entirely of just short stories, all not connected in terms of long spanning time frame, this season like the first book, is about the world building/introduction. Understand it to a point, the Mages and how they shape the kingdoms are huge part of the books backbone.

The real consistent linnear story should start when Geralt and Ciri meet and things unfold. IMO they should met in this season sooner, or just save Ciri entirely for season 2, way they did was bit weird compared to books, where they met in enchanted woods. But the monster fantasy adventure and cold blooded straight socio-political dark cynical world story for him and her should kick off for real in season 2 as it did in later full on sequels are full fledged novels. A story becomes more interesting when its more narrow. Geralt felt like a passenger in the last 3 episodes, because of how they were building the big conflict that shapes the world.

P.S Cavill is THE PERFECT casting choice ever for Geralt (that sword fight in beginning was Geralt to a T). Couldnt been better, hope he gets better writing to work with for season 2 (which is why I was half-wishing this series was done by HBO instead).

I agree with every point. There’s a lot of room for improvements obviously but It’s a good start to what could become an all time great show, because the material they have to work with is amazing and again the main actor absolutely nailed his character.

I hate how we as a society turn into a “it’s either the best thing ever or absolute shit” mode when reviewing everything. Those 5 out of 10 reviews are just as bad as the 10 out of 10s. The show is neither.

Its a 7.5 Show at its best episode, with potential for more, adapting one of fantasy books I enjoyed the most in past decade and half (because its so different from every anglo fantasy we are used to). I would be fine if the show was as simple as just showing me Geralt enteracting with towners while its an episodic monster hunt episode ala supernatural every episode :D He is a characters thats challenging to make focal point of entire money making venture (he gives you as minimal as possible about him), but he is really good character.

5/10 is nowhere near the same as 10/10. It implies it’s a mediocre and flawed show. 2/10 would be calling it absolute shit.

And with regards to this show, 5/10 is far more appropriate than a 10/10 rating, as that means the viewer is purposefully ignoring the garbage dialogue, the poor pacing, and the weak camera work.

Don't really agree, Like @Osman said it's a 7, 7.5 show for me with the potential to go beyond 8 depending on improvements for second season. To me what he said is the most accurate review yet. Don't care for the whining and hate from all the know it all expert writers, directors and camera men out there.

Osman said the best episode is 7.5. Not the entire show.

Shows that receive 8.0 and above should be excellent shows, and that 9+ range is for the greatest shows ever. General audiences give out these 8+ ratings way too easily. This show isn’t even close.

Maybe the best episode of it deserves that 7ish rating, but the show as a whole doesn’t deserve more than a 6 imo. A very flawed show with potential to improve.

It's amazing how social media has managed to castrate the western male, i watched 2 episodes and there's not one single appealing 'male' character, typical nonsensical postmodernist fight against relatability because hurr durr since we freaks aint normal we must destroy it. So we have us a show where all the strength benevolence and good judgement comes from women, that fucking scene of the incel king playing teenage lover in the middle of a battlefield was just too much lol he should have had a javelin shoved up his fairy ass. And the fucking witcher, the archetypical white knight no matter how much black you dress him in, a more vapid protagonist i have yet to see But bro he got nice fight choreo ergo he a badass. Also in typical feminist fashion, they keep going back and forth on women and how strong/helpless they are, in the same scene they show strong women leading men and then speak of how white men wanna kill and rape poor helpless women because they are evil, yeah that mage was totally not the embodiment of patriarchy. Don't get me started on the fucking dialogue. in conclusion, your candy ass has spent way too much time in cuckland and you just want to stay culturally relevant by gobbling piss poor feminist drivel, and for the record I don't give a fuck how true to the book this garbage is.

You can always watch the Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme macho bullshit from the 80’s parceiro if that will get you going but don’t give me that shit argument.

You talk about it being too feminist and how social media is to blame but at the same time don’t care if it’s true to the books when they were written in the 90’s way before any of this post modern feminism you hate so much. You might have had a valid point if this was created recently or based on modern society, but again this was written before the internet and all of social media really became a thing.

You must have misunderstood what i meant i said social media brainwashed people into accepting whatever this book/show is peddling, i dont know the book therefore i can only comment on what i saw, i mean would you look at this scene LOL how more obvious, gratuitous objetification of women by guy who kills little girls and when asked about the worst kind of monster he might as well just say women

From the very beginning Netfux was marketing this off of how diverse/ woke its writing staff was lol it never stood a chance.

sounds almost as shit as the game. :snoop:

    :agree:

I can’t wait for how woke new Lord of the Rings shows on Amazon will be. :weee:

I read somewhere that some producer/director killed off the white male lead of his show after a few seasons and said he did it just to show that white male leads are no longer safe from being killed off anymore. Can’t think of the show now.

Watched the whole thing cause liked a book long time ago in school. I'd say it's a solid 3/5 maybe even 3.5/5. Nothing to write home about, but the book itself is pretty much the same.
