The thing is that Bastos is pretty much done and we all know he wouldn't come here as a sub. Just expect something like:

Krasic-X-Pirlo-Bastos
Matri-Y

Player X would be Melo or his replacement.. someone like Inler or Lass D.

Player Y would be Quag if we fail to get Sanchez, Aguero or whoever.

We might not like it, but things are looking that way. This is all assuming Conte won't change a bit.

I really wouldn't mind that. I think Bastos would be ok , and also Vargas would be ok , i could agree with this formation even though i prefer 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
BUT with a centre without Pirlo as a starter. Melo-Vidal for example. Or Melo- N' Vila. And Aguero as SS. Or Sanchez. Or a Tevez - Matri offensive line. Or a Rossi - MAtri one.
With Pirlo as a starter i woudn't go for that 4-4-2.

Bastos is average, far better options:tup:
He's not average. We just need a better/different player to make a proper jump and Bastos will also mean that we'll stick with our silly 4-4-2.

Pirlo's coming doesn't make sense too, coz we could have three sources of threat (Krasic, LW, SS) covered by two DM (or a DM and some b2b with a great workrate to cover the whole pitch closing down like a horse). This way (Bastos and Pirlo), we'll just make Bastos a Marchisio more skilled with the ball and not a purely attacking minded LM.

Melo and Quagliarella to finish that formation would mean no CL next year. It could work with a WC coach, but when the coach is just nothing special as it seems, he'll be the guy wanting WC players to cover his ass and not the inverse.

All this Lass, Agüero, Pastore, Pirlo, etc. talk seems like we're going to skip upgrading our defense this year, yet again.

Yeah but it'd be better if the three forwards are good on the ball, it would be nice for example for the central of the three to drop deep and one of the wider forwards taking place. Aguer-Quag-Neymar can nicely interchange positions.

True, but if we had Aguero and Neymar (damn, we're really dreaming here :D ) I dont think we'd need Quag in the team, it would be better to have someone of different characteristics and better finishing. We wouldnt need the centre forward to drop back and a wide one taking his place, it could also look like almost a 4-3-1-2, with one the two wider forwards (Neymar and Aguero) interchanging to come back for the ball behind the other two. SO at times you'd have Neymar behind Matri and Aguero or Aguero behind Neymar and MAtri. no need for all three to be able to come back for the ball.

Sorry for forgetting the meaning of this thread Zlatan, but I ended up disappointed after each Summer way too much to dream about players any more.

Yeah, same here. although I put Mascherano, Neymar and Aguero in the formation I know there is no chance of that ever happening (maybe 1% chance for just Aguero tho).

I just wish we had a more clear idea on what formation we will use next year? 442? 424? I mean is a 424 more like a 4231? I'd love Pastore here and to be honest I can't decide what we could use more of...an AM like Pastore or an SS like Kun...IMO both would give this team an equal upgrade albeit both being different kinds of players. Either one will transform our offense in the right direction.
All this Lass, Agüero, Pastore, Pirlo, etc. talk seems like we're going to skip upgrading our defense this year, yet again.
Not necessarily...after all Beck has been on the drawing board for months and who knows maybe they plan on Bastos as LB? I think we just prefer the idea of signing a WC player and there are more of them around than possible defender prospects to fill the positions needed.
