I personally think reinforcing our defense should be a priority. Our attack is fine for the moment. Most great teams build from the back. We can't give our offensive players the freedom to attack as they please if they're scared to lose possession because the defenders can't cope.

Thing is, we can get Dzeko for a similar fee, we could possibly get Benzema, Fabiano & Vucinic for much less than Neymar, so i can't justify paying that much for him.
Exactly. Dzeko is a must and our remaining budget should go to an affordable LM and defense. Spending 30m+ on 1 player that's never stepped foot on Europe should not be in our business plan in the next year or two.

I love you nick and would love to have neymar but he is an expensive toy right now.

Think about all the loans with options to buy we have right now playing in the team. If we don't take up some of them then we are going to have even more holes that need to be filled and adding that to a 30+m Neymar is expensive as shit.

De Ceglie has looked like a proper fullback at times, so I guess we'll evaluate his situation after he has had a chance to recover. RB (and PROPER backup for both sides) I fully agree with, but so is attack. When you say it is "fine" I guess you're referring to Quagliarella, because the other two forwards fill me with disappointment. Getting a striker is a must, we sent Trezeguet away like that and didn't even bother to try and replace him properly. There is still a long way (and large money) to go until this team becomes something to fight for two top competitions.

With Neymar you're paying for over 12 seasons of quality football if he stays at the club (and fulfills his huge potential), so that's why he is so expensive. I agree about the price, but it wouldn't trouble me in the end. I guess it's personal preference because I think he's one to watch, as opposed to those who prefer Vucinic but I don't really see why there is a big fuss over him.

I think Neymar would be more effective for us than Dzeko will be.

De Deglie is a squad player, he's far too erratic. Quags is fine & is who i was referring to.

We could have kept Trez & sold both Amauri & Iaquinta. Diego could have been used as a support striker, as that's what Del Neri would have decided.

So we would have had Trez, DP, Quags & Diego. That surely would have been way better then the two dormant strikers we have now.

It's not that i don't want Neymar here. We are in a rebuilding phase AGAIN, that being said we can't afford to splash on a wildcard like Neymar. Going back to 2005 when we had one of the best teams around then we could have gone for him, as we had the luxury of splashing cash.

When we have a well established starting eleven & decent bench, then i wouldn't mind us going for player with potential that have huge price tags.

no use trying to glue up a broken record
That's messed up. :depressed

I'm not hating on anyone man, I save that for Amauri. I just think Neymar, as Byron said, is an expensive wildcard that we can't afford until we have a more established team.

I'd like Neymar, but not now, we have wayyyyy to many other areas to fix and players to sell as well.

When was the last time we had a striker have 8 goals in 12 games this time of the season? We need that again badly. Nick thinks neymar will give it to us and I think dzeko. Dzeko is doing it in germnay and neymar in brazil. Both are good but IMO where we are now in rebuilding, economically it makes more sense getting dzeko with someone good beside him and a great winger on the left. We should use the EU spot on him, that's just what I think. I'm trying to argue diplomatically here.

since when do you take these jabs seriously :p i dont think we should get either, one is too expensive the other too problematic. if we need a left winger a replacement for momo and ama/iaq, and a RB possibly LB too we cant be throwing 40 mil on one player

I would love to see Kranjcar here for a fee under 8m.

He can easily be a good squad player for the LM or even SS position. I've never seen him play at CM thou' but I guess he can be the backup for Aquilani too.

And yes, a player swap with Tottenham sounds sweet, they can take Iaquinta, Amauri Grygera or Momo for all I care.

I would love to see Corluka here as well.
how can we kranjcar when he non eu?

I don't, I accept the broken record tag in regards to amauri only because I was right about him all along :D

If dzeko is too expensive, then what was the point of the diego deal? I bet we get a much better deal this time than what last summer would have been. :nerd:

So lets get more stop gap solutions for the defense. Are we ac milan now?

We need a SOLID back four, we can't continuously ignore the obvious defensive flaws that will continue to haunt this team.
yup.

lol@suggesting a free transfer and an unproven (even as hopeful as I am about him) Sorensen to bolster our defence for ANOTHER season.

you build a strong team from the back. not with grygeras, mellbergs, stendardos, knezevics, rinaudos, and on and on.

Kranjcar has confirmed he's definitely leaving in January. We are one of the clubs linked but he prefers a stay in the EPL. He'd probably not turn us down if we came with an offer, however, the price mentioned is around 13m Euro which is kind of a turn off for a player who barely played in close to a year. Especially when you consider the fact Tottenham bought him for less than half of that.

I like Niko, he'd be a solid addition to us, but not for the money mentioned. Can be better spent elsewhere.
Scored a brace today :D

With regards to the Dzeko vs. Neymar debate, barring all the financial details, you have to ask yourself how often these sort of players come around. In thinking about that, I have to say that a player like Neymar is more rare. And for that reason, he's the player I prefer.
