30M for Coentrao and people are complaining about Neymar commanding a high salary?

Coentrao is a good player, but he's not some amazing talent and he's not worth more than 15M Euros.

:agree:

There is basically no point in looking at players from Benfica (or Lyon) unless you are willing to get ripped off.

Buffon

Cassani - Bonucci - Chiellini - Coentrao

Krasic - Melo - Aquilani - Hazard

Matri - Qtube
I like hazard's talent, but this formation would get steamrolled by tough opponents, because there is very few ballwinning. if you field krasic and hazard, then you need marchisio, melo and aquilani to back that up.
and even then the side is far to physically and defensively weak to be a true juventus team.

In 2013/2014:

----------Matri------------------

-------------------Piazon-------

Sanchez--Pastore-Melo--Krasic

Bastos--Chiellini--Bonucci--VdW

-------------Buffon-----------

Aqua, Marchisio, Quaggz as subs.
Balance, look up what that word means. any side with a strong midfield will press us down to our own goal.

My 2013/2014 juventus side

---------------Buffon----------

Cassani---Chiellini--Bonucci---Cissokho

Krasic------Melo--aquilani----Gourcuff

--------------Piazon-----------------
--------------Matri (or Lukaku but thats wishfull thinking)

Yeah. And it's unfortunate because they have a solid scouting system. I wish we could pull some of those guys over here.
I really don't understand why more teams don't have strong scouting systems in most, if not all, the key areas of the world.

I know this is borderline Football Manager talk, but investing in a top-notch scouting system can save a club a great deal of money. It just seems such an obvious thing to do.

Obvious, and probable. It depends on the philosophy of the club. In theory any moderately wealthy side could put 25 scouts around the world and have report cards come in, most probably do. We have South American scouts, just because we don't sign lots of players from there it doesn't mean we or they are doing anything wrong, as if they don't have eyes or know what to look for in a player. It goes back to what the DG and coach want.

Our philosophy shouldn't be that of Udinese or Palermo anyway. I've made posts about this before with stats to back it up but those teams can give a player seasons to develop and still not reach the CL. Juventus fans simply wouldn't put up with this long bedding-in period. If we are talking about a portion of that philosophy, taking the odd risks, that's different.

That doesn't really make sense because teams do change their styles.

Where's the law that states you need to do that? Why can't we just make sure Hazard and Krasic or whomever come back to defend, or teach Hazard how to play the role we want?

Someone like Hazard is going to make the opposition come back to deal with him, meaning that his inclusion alone actually helps the defense.

People get too worked up about what happens in theory on paper.

You talk about balance and put Gourcuff as a LW? How is that going to help defensively?
Yeah, that made no sense whatsoever. And Gourcuff likes the right side more than the left.

It's not FM talk, it's reality. Since Juve don't have the financial backing of other clubs, it makes logical sense to invest in younger players who are not established yet. Of course, this takes a LOT of effort in tracking players and skill in rating them, but if Benfica or Palermo can do it, so can we.

I'm sure that the problem at Juve is every bit as much that the club isn't very willing to throw cash at a 17 year old on the off chance they fulfil their potential.

However, Juve should, I feel, be in a position to make an investment when a chance comes along. Look at Man Utd and Bebe; they got a strong recommendation and immediately spent 7m on him. He may or may not make it, but you have to admire the fact that they are able and willing to make that investment.

I'm not suggesting Juve go in for harvesting very young players from lesser clubs the way some clubs do, but Juve do need to be more willing to sign young players and develop them, even if it just means signing a kid and loaning him to Udinese, instead of watching Udinese sign him, develop him and sell him to Juve for 15m.

It's hard to loan a player without any experience effectively to any club if he's not getting playing time because they can't make the profit out of him. The whole point of Udinese is to find young talents and sell them off for 10x higher than what they purchased them for. I think there needs to be a reserve league or something to encourage playing time (also a way of letting the Salihamidzic types of the world prove themselves).
