4-2-3-1 is the best formation we can play with our current squad and we should invest in Pastore
and a lw (gio) and appoint van gaal as manager and we will be settle for a while\

With our current squad, I'd say the best way to go is 4-3-3.
Really? I like the system a lot in general but I dont think it would suit us at all. We lack fullbacks, a left winger, a holding CM, a great passer in our CM area and a striker for a 4-3-3 which clearly isn't Matri. I dont know, but I dont think we could switch to that system after just one year.

with the choices available, mancini is by far the best option, Guidolin i do like, for his ability to adapt his formations to counter the opposition and expose their weaknesses, but would require more time and patience than mancini, villas boas - i appreciate many here want him, but he himself admitted that he may not suit Italy

But Juve are lacking in various positions no matter what system they use.

We could use an entire new team when it comes down to it. But if you look at our best results since the new year, they've come in matches where we have used the 4-3-3. Plus against Milan in the Fall, we used the 4-3-3 then as well. The nice thing about it is that we get to use Marchisio in his more natural role more towards the center while still being able to field Melo and Aquilani. Even though we lack good fullbacks, the midfield three does a good job covering and allows Krasic a more forward role, which is important because he's our best attacking player. The problem area is the left-sided attacker, but maybe we could use Quag in a hybrid front three with a winger, centre forward, and a support striker.

The 4-4-2 we use is too static and since we don't have a proper left-winger, players are used out of position. At least with the 4-3-3 everyone is accustomed to their roles and are used most effectively.

And Vargas wouldn't suit it IMO.
Probably not, because then it would primarily be a 4-5-1. Depending on the manager the 4-3-3 could turn into the 4-5-1 anyway, but I prefer the more progressive former.

Ball possesion is an essential part of 4-3-3 and frankly I distrust a midfield of Melo, Aquilani and Marchisio keeping hold of the ball and passing properly. All three of them suck at passing imo.

So what would you use, then?

At least the midfield trio of Melo, Aquilani and Marchisio is decent defensively.

We don't have the players for the 4-2-3-1 unless you want to use Aquilani behind the main striker, a role that requires him to assert himself on the game. He doesn't really do that.

3-5-2 is out of the question, as is the 4-3-1-2/4-1-2-1-2.

So really, we only have two choices. The 4-4-2 or the 4-3-3/4-5-1.

I am worried about the players we need to get rid of.

Aquilani, Pepe, and especially that idiot Motta seem straightforward enough. Just send them back to where they came from! As for Martinez, Grosso, Grygera, Sissoko, Toni, Iaquinta, and Amauri, the situation seems a lot trickier. I would also get rid of Barfugly, but as long as he sits his ass on the bench next season, we should be fine.

Melo - Lass Diarra/M'vila
Pirlo

Might sound too destructive, but atleast you wont have a midfield which often gets outmusceled and screws up the passing all the time with Melo, Marchisio and Aquaman. Looks solid and a midfield which can keep the ball and dont give it away all the time.

With Buffon leaving, that gives us some funding to make a few solid transfers.

Storari

Zaccardo - Bonucci - Chiellini - DC

Aquilani - Melo - Montolivo

Krasic - Gilardino - Matri
