Yeah, that works until it DOESN'T, and somebody else steps in to secure the player.
Sometimes it's simple risk taking but I would guess that sometimes it's done in agreement between the clubs.

Say Juve and our wish to sell Grygera, Zebina and Camo. If teams approach us and want these players in August, then we accept and sign some pre-deal or something.
It's being done obviously because the guy knows these things and when it's done it's a deal between a big club and a smaller club.

20m for Forlan would be the dumbest move ever. 32 years old so we'd have what 2 good seasons with him? If he can adapt to Serie A...

Way too much money for an old player who is only going to start loosing ability in the coming years. That would be absurd to say the least.

IMO.

Forlan is only a month older than me and he just turned 31
Don't make us older than we are :D

Also, I would agree with a 10m+Iaquinta. They are the same age, Forlan being some 4-5 months older, but Forlan is class while Vinni is a worker and we have enough workers.

I understand where you're coming from because he is a much more talented footballer than Iaq. But still, we should really be looking to some younger players.

Obviously.

I don't think we're after Forlan at all, but if we are it's gonna be a very smart move.
Forlan is not old right now, right? Considering the non-EU rule, we can buy only one of Dzeko or Krasic. If we buy Krasic and Forlan (has Spanish passport) then we improve our team a lot. We don't play CL and Forlan is a class player more than good enough for this CL-less year and a great scorer (won the golden boot twice in his career, the last time being 2008/09). We get both width and goals with Krasic and Forlan.
Then next year we buy a younger quality striker and we will have a 32 year old Forlan as a direct replacement of a 36/37 year old Del Piero and a younger striker to replace Trez, with Amauri or someone else as the 3rd striker.

Even if we have only 2-3 good years from Forlan, it's gonna be worthy of 10 million+Iaquinta.

But it's too good to be true.

See if it truely played out like that then it wouldn't be so bad but at this point I think we should explore all possible options before we commit for a player on the wrong side of 30.

We definitely need at least one new face up top though.
